George Fox University's Department of Performing Arts seeks a creative individual with strong teaching and performance skills to teach applied voice beginning in the Fall 2024 semester.

About the job :

The number of students in the course varies per semester, and 5-10 hours of teaching are initially anticipated. Candidates should be experienced and comfortable teaching collegiate students from a variety of majors with various levels of experience.

Candidates must feel comfortable teaching in various genres which may include Classical, Broadway, and Worship.

About the department :

The Department of Performing Arts has six full time faculty, 20 applied faculty & staff, 25 music majors, and approximately 50 music, worship, & theatre minors.

The department is located on our Newberg campus, and over 13% of the 2,400 undergraduate students participate in music or theatre in some form or another.

They offer a BA in Music with concentrations in Liberal Arts, Music Industry, and Worship, and minors in Music, Worship, and Theatre.

Job responsibilities include, but are not limited to :

Teaching private voice lessons to students during the fall and spring semesters (13 weekly lessons per student each semester).

Lessons are either 30 minutes or 60 minutes in duration, depending on the student's major and / or goals.

  • Grading semester juries alongside two other voice faculty.
  • Performing in faculty recitals and other concerts as desired.
  • Communicating effectively and courteously with others, including employees, students, and the public, in a spirit of teamwork, respect and customer service.
  • By actions, words, and lifestyle, be a Christian role model to students, whether through casual contact or in a formal supervisory role.
  • Demonstrating awareness, respect, and appreciation for diversity of culture, background, race, sex, political views, expressions of faith, etc.

and works well with a variety of people.

We're looking for candidates who have :

  • Master's degree is required.
  • Documented successful teaching experience in applied voice is required, with collegiate experience preferred.
  • Documented successful performing experience preferred.
  • A strong commitment to the Christian faith with experience in a variety of musical worship expressions.
  • A team-oriented and collaborative nature.
  • A commitment to working with a diverse population of students is essential; demonstrated experience in this area is preferred.
  • A personal commitment to Jesus Christ and express their Christian testimony in a church. In addition, employees agree to live in agreement with the Community Lifestyle Statement and affirm the theological commitments expressed in the Statement of Faith.

Preference will be given to those who have the following attributes :

Mezzo Soprano, Tenor, Baritone, or Bass.

Job information :

  • Working Conditions : Physical requirements are similar to those of teaching environments.
  • Primary Work Location : Newberg Campus
  • Schedule : Adjunct Instructors of Voice / Applied Music Instructors are to set their teaching schedule around student availability.

This is typically during regular class hours, preferably on Tuesday, Thursday, or Friday. Evenings are also a possibility.

  • Compensation : Adjunct faculty are paid on a per credit hour basis, commensurate with education and experience. Applied lessons are paid at $65 / hour.
