Job Description

Summary

This request is to hire a Research Coordinator for clinical trials in the Division of Endocrinology with a focus on diabetes, lipid disorders, and weight management research.

The coordinator will be responsible for adherence to study protocol, maintaining regulatory documents and ongoing reporting to the IRB, recruiting participants into clinical trials, scheduling and coordinating study visits, conducting phlebotomy and study visits, data collection, and data entry.

The coordinator will assist and work with the endocrinology research team (to include PI's / faculty, Program Manager, Coordinators, Program assistants) with study-related tasks.

Job Description

Job Duties :

Protocol Implementation / Visit Activity (35%)

Collaborate with all members of the research team to develop and implement research studies.

Schedule clinical trial study visits for participants.

Manage scheduling of medical personnel for research study visits when necessary.

Provide support to research coordination activities across the division’s research portfolio as needed while also assisting in the ongoing collection of clinical data and biospecimens for clinical trials.

Independently conduct study visits in SCTR research nexus clinic according to study protocol including checking vital signs, administering questionnaires, and study procedures.

Perform venipuncture (phlebotomy) during study visits and perform sample collection and coordinate for transportation to laboratory.

Call clinical trial participants to encourage compliance as needed per protocol.

Regulatory (25%)

Independently maintain regulatory compliance, accurate and comprehensive documentation as required by all regulatory authorities (local, State, and Federal entities as applicable), meet study sponsor requirements, and Good Clinical Practices guidelines for human research.

Independently prepare IRB submissions including initial submission, amendments, and continuing reviews.

Recruitment and Participant Pre-screening Activities (25%)

Conduct medical chart review to identify potential participants for clinical trials.

Pre-screen potential subjects according to IRB approved protocol for clinical trials.

Call potential participants, send electronic messages in medical record, with study information for clinical trial recruitment.

Independently conducts and documents informed consent process.

Some travel around the Charleston area for visit and recruitment activities.

Data Extraction and Entry (10%)

Complete study documentation and entry of participant data into designated research records / electronic databases.

Miscellaneous (5%)

Other duties as assigned to ensure the efficiency, effectiveness, and success of the research team.

Preferred Experience & Additional Skills : A Bachelor's degree in psychology, biology, nursing or other natural life, or health care field preferred.

Knowledge of computer-based information systems desirable. Ability to present information effectively in both written and verbal form.

Infrequent) Ability to push / pull objects, up to 15 lbs., unassisted. (Infrequent) Ability to maintain 20 / 40 vision, corrected, in one eye or with both eyes.

Continuous) Ability to see and recognize objects close at hand. (Frequent) Ability to see and recognize objects at a distance.
