Lead Materials Scientist
As a Material Scientist, you'll spearhead the creation of innovative materials, drive new product launches, and provide invaluable technical support to our esteemed clientele.
Your role involves the thrilling challenge of developing groundbreaking high-temperature fusion processes and offering crucial manufacturing technical support.
Collaborating closely with our team, you'll be instrumental in scaling up products and processes from the initial bench phase to high-volume production.
Moreover, you'll not only contribute to managing our team of Technology Technicians but also play a pivotal role in shaping the future of materials technology within our organization.
Job Description
- Develop new quartz products and processes utilizing technical expertise to meet new market / application demands.
- Lead new product introduction projects with cross-functional teams and external validation partners. Responsibilities include IP research, feasibility testing, prototyping, gauge development, pilot testing, cost model construction, and analysis.
Will work with Manufacturing, Quality, and EHS to support scale-up and transfer of technology.
- Apply project management skills in planning, budgeting, time management, resource allocation, and risk management.
- Generate intellectual properties such as patents, publications, and internal reports. Also, support generation of product brochures, marketing communications including white papers, technical training presentations, and procedures for commercial and manufacturing teams respectively.
- Responsible for manufacturing technical support regarding high-temperature processing of quartz and quartz-containing materials.
- Apply Six Sigma methodology, statistical, surface, and materials characterization tools for process improvement, failure analysis, and troubleshooting.
Minimum Qualifications :
- PhD degree in Material Science & Engineering or Glass Science.
- 0 - 2 years of industry experience.
- Expertise in working with and the design of high-temperature processing equipment of quartz, glass, or ceramics.
- Proficient in statistical design and analysis of experimental data including design of experiments, hypothesis testing, and Gage R&R.
- Project management experience - effective planning and prioritization of projects of significant business impact to deliver new product / process technologies.
- Proven ability to collaborate with manufacturing, suppliers, and customers to accomplish project objectives on time and within budget.
- Ability to do hands-on work in an industrial environment with necessary PPE and interact and influence in a matrixed environment.
- A strong sense of accountability, urgency, and self-direction.
Preferred Qualifications :
- Experience with, or design of, quartz fusion processes including electric fusion, arc fusion, and flame fusion.
- Understanding and experience with a variety of analytical tools utilized to measure ambient and high-temperature properties of fused silica and ceramics.
- Experience designing products for semiconductor processing equipment and familiarity with the semiconductor tool market.
- Six Sigma training and / or certifications.
Our Lead Materials Scientists / Technology Managers earn a variable compensation including base salary and bonus. Base salary range takes into consideration experience, education, and training.
