Required Education and Experience : Graduate of an accredited School of Registered Nursing. Active Florida RN license. Minimum of One (1) year experience in outpatient endoscopy, medical surgical unit.
Or GI lab. Current CPR certification.Preferred Education and Experience : CGRN preferred. Must obtain ACLS certification within 3 months of employment.
Essential FunctionsParticipates in the preparation of the patient for endoscopy. Performs the pre-admission assessment either over the telephone or in person.
Provides all pre-admission policy requirements as determined by policy of organization. Provides pre-procedure instructions as necessary that may require communication with physician and his staff.
Ascertains that all appropriate data is in the patients record prior to admission or immediately following admission and prior to procedural intervention.
Communicates abnormal and / or extensive medical history to the physician / anesthesiologist as soon as discovered. Maintains communication with reception areas and procedure rooms to assure efficient movement of patients and family communication.
Assists physician, nurse extender and / or GI tech in room for procedure scheduled. These duties are / but are not limited to : Ensuring Time Out has been completed per Center policy.
Assisting physician as necessary / requested. Provides Moderate Sedation under the direct supervision of the physician following Center policy.
Ensures completeness of pathology requisitions and photographs as applicable. Positions patient as indicated, paying attention to any previous restrictions of movement the patient may have that would jeopardize said position.
Assists Tech as necessary in set up of all equipment and supplies, checks video processor, printer and suction for proper working order.
In the PACU area, performs the following duties but is not limited to : Receives patient from procedure rooms, assesses patients condition on admission, and throughout stay in recovery as per Center policy.
Participates in Hand Off Communication policy. This includes but is not limited to patient name, procedure and patients response, medications and pts response, other unusual circumstances as apply to the patient, and physical and mental limitations.
Observes and monitors the post-op procedure patient as indicated on the PACU record and documents appropriately. Administers medications, IVs and treatments;
with appropriate documentation : observes patients reaction and acts appropriately in the event of adverse reactions. Assures the two person requirement rule for PACU is observed.
Provides a summary of post-op / discharge instructions to each patient. Discharges patient according to Center policy.
