ABOUT THE ROLE

The Senior Business Development Manager designs and implements strategic business development plans for the multidisciplinary Life Sciences + Healthcare sector, which includes the Biotech, Pharma, and Medtech sub-sectors among others.

Lead strategy discussions with the Life Sciences + Healthcare sector co-chairs and other key contributors to set the group’s strategy.

Document the plan and ensure that all activities align with the group’s strategy.

Produce and maintain a list of targets for work related to the Life Sciences + Healthcare industry group and sub-sectors.

This includes work from existing clients and greenfield targets. Monitor industry press and other resources to proactively identify targets (companies, funds, etc.

Research key players at targets and, working with the Life Sciences + Healthcare group co-chairs and other attorneys across the firm, develop a plan to obtain work from targets.

  • Ensure consistent, prompt follow-up on all Life Sciences + Healthcare related opportunities stemming from conference attendance, MoFo events, the targeting work described above, and other sources.
  • Identify key organizations with which to partner on Life Sciences + Healthcare sector business development efforts, as well as top conferences and events in the space.

Identify awards for which to nominate our attorneys and our clients, and work with appropriate MoFo resources to draft award nominations.

Partner with the Communications team to develop a PR / communications plan for the Life Sciences + Healthcare group and sub-sectors.

Conceptualize and execute MoFo events focused on the Life Sciences + Healthcare sector that serve the strategic goals.

Offer creative ideas for connecting meaningfully with clients and prospects including within the sub-sectors.

  • Establish and maintain relationship with relevant outside organizations. Partner together on global events to maximize business development opportunities.
  • Serve as both project manager and strategic advisor for content projects. Develop Life Sciences + Healthcare sector related content and thought leadership, collaborating closely with attorneys.
  • Working closely with the Life Sciences + Healthcare Co-Chairs and Steering Committee, serve as advisor globally for the firm’s Technology focused BD efforts across practices and sub-sectors.

Plan and host regular Steering Committee meetings; ensure follow-up on action items from meetings.

  • Identify cross-selling opportunities through collecting and proactively sharing information with other senior business development managers and the greater Marketing team.
  • Ensure that staff is knowledgeable and trained on professional and technical matters. Provide supportive coaching; set achievable, challenging team goals;

develop skills of team members to ensure achievement of client service priorities. Ensure team is structured effectively to meet client service objectives.

ABOUT YOU

  • Bachelor’s degree in a related field required, MBA preferred.
  • At least seven years of relevant experience in professional services marketing; law firm experience preferred.
  • In-depth knowledge of core marketing principles including driving innovative tools and programs, competitive intelligence, market research, and pitch and RFP responses.
  • Strong knowledge of Life Sciences + Healthcare industries and sub-sectors desired, with direct work experience a plus.
  • High degree of motivation, with driving sense of responsibility, accountability, and responsiveness.
  • Excellent writing skills. Ability to focus written materials to ensure impact on general business, legal, and niche populations.
  • Strong business acumen; the ability to recognize marketing and business development opportunities and to pursue them strategically.
  • Excellent attention to detail in all areas, including writing, copy editing, researching, and managing data.
  • Strong presentation and communication skills.
  • Outstanding interpersonal skills and capability to work effectively in a matrixed organization.
  • Excellent organizational and project management skills; ability to manage multiple requests, assess priorities, and achieve solutions under deadlines.
  • Ability to quickly assess information, anticipate issues and outcomes, and make effective decisions, including ability to draw clear conclusions from a diverse collection of data.
  • Talent for creating client satisfaction; demonstrated ability to focus on the client value in all work.

Where required by law, salary ranges are stated below. Additional compensation may include a discretionary bonus, overtime as applicable, health / welfare benefits, retirement contributions, paid holidays, and PTO.

The range displayed is specifically for positions performed in those cities / states and may vary based on factors including but not limited to the following : local market data and ranges;

an applicant's skills and prior relevant experience; and certain degrees, licensing, and certifications.

New York, San Francisco, Palo Alto salary range : $147k to $219k

Los Angeles, San Diego salary range : $136k to $204k

Denver salary range : $128k to $191k
