Environmental Health and Safety Officer

The Environmental Health and Safety (EHS) Officer plays a crucial role in a dynamic team working on cutting-edge lithium-ion battery technologies.

This includes developing the proprietary manufacturing processes essential for bringing these products to market. The engineering programs are fast-paced, requiring the EHS Officer to act swiftly and confidently, ensuring that the team has the necessary resources to achieve their goals safely and efficiently.

The ideal candidate will lead efforts to continuously enhance a strong safety culture across all departments. This role demands strong interpersonal skills, a commitment to expanding technical and regulatory knowledge, a strong work ethic, and keen attention to detail.

The EHS Officer position is both high-impact and highly visible, so the successful candidate must thrive in such an environment.

This role reports to the Director of Engineering Operations.

Responsibilities :

• Promote and ensure safe operations in a fast-paced R&D and pilot production environment, fostering a daily culture of safety among colleagues.
• Conduct incident investigations in collaboration with technical teams and drive the implementation of corrective actions.
• Lead the development and management of hazardous materials programs, ensuring compliance with relevant regulations and company procedures.
• Oversee the selection and maintenance of critical safety equipment, working closely with the Manufacturing leadership and Facilities Manager when necessary.
• Manage Process Safety Management activities, including PHA, PSSR, JSA, and NMI programs.
• Lead training programs for new and existing employees on EHS best practices and company policies, and maintain both live and virtual training resources.
• Serve as a technical resource for workplace safety, including hazardous materials handling, chemical hygiene, HAZCOM, OSHA, and other relevant regulations.
• Assist Facility and Operations Managers with the installation of capital assets.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Required Skills and Experience :

• A proactive ownership mindset and enthusiasm for taking charge of the role, with a focus on high-visibility and influential projects.
• Ability to work effectively with various teams, adapting approaches as needed.
• 5+ years of directly related experience, with highly motivated candidates with less experience also considered.
• Preferred experience in lithium-ion manufacturing.
• Preferred experience with Process Safety Management.
• Strong knowledge of Federal, State, and local regulations, including OSHA, EPA, DEP, and DOT.
• Proven experience in developing and delivering effective, technical EHS training materials.
• Strong attention to detail, with a history of implementing innovative solutions and adaptability.
• Ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment with excellent time management and prioritization skills.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.

Preferred Certifications :

• Certified Industrial Hygienist (CIH)
• Certified or Associate Safety Professional (CSP / ASP)
• Certified Hazardous Materials Manager (CHMM)

Education :

Bachelor’s degree in a related field.

Physical and Environmental Requirements :

• Ability to work in a low-moisture dry room environment with
