- Develops and conducts individual and group creative arts therapy sessions to include long-term and short-term goals based on observation and referrals.
- Designs and implements a variety of goal-oriented group sessions which utilize art and other creative modalities (e.g.
music, drama, and dance) as effective therapeutic tools.
- Assesses effectiveness of sessions and makes appropriate changes, as needed.
- Plans and implements a structured experience to enhance patient self-awareness and self-expression.
- Encourages independent creative expression through the use of creative arts, music or related media.
- Maintains current clinical documentation on all patients' sessions.
- Assists in operating, maintaining and purchasing equipment and other materials / resources necessary for creative art therapy sessions, i.
e., presentation equipment, supplies, etc.
- Participates as a team member in providing continuing patients' assessment and treatment.
- Attends treatment team meetings and supervisory conferences
- Performs related duties, as required.
- REQUIRED EXPERIENCE AND QUALIFICATIONS
- Master's Degree in Creative Arts Therapy, required.
- New York State Education Department licensed Creative Arts Therapist, required;
NYSED Creative Arts Therapist valid permit and must become licensed and registered within one (1) year of hire.
- Department specific certification in one or more of the following, preferred :
- Registered Art Therapist (ATR) or Board Certified Art Therapist (ATR-BC) credentialing through Art Therapy Credentials Board (ATCB)
- Registered Drama Therapist (RDT) through the National Association for Drama Therapy (NADT)
- Registered Dance / Movement Therapist (R-DMT) through the Dance / Movement Therapy Certification Board (DMTCB)
- Registered Music Therapist (RMT), Certified Music Therapist (CMT), or Advanced Certified Music Therapist (ACMT) through the National Association for Music Therapy (NAMT)
- Music Therapist - Board Certified (MT-BC) through the Certification Board of Music Therapists (CBMT).
Minimum of one (1) year experience practicing creative arts therapy, required.
