Nurse Practitioner Specialty Care (BMG)
Reports to a Practice Manager / Director for administrative supervision and the Practice Site Physician or designee for clinical supervision.
Is responsible for the coordination and delivery of primary care, as specified by the appropriate certifying agency, to BMG patients at designated work sites.
Provides clinical and administrative assistance to BMG programs, etc. Works collaboratively in the education of nursing students, medical residents, and other pre-professionals.

Coordinates and delivers primary and nursing care in collaboration with the Practice Site Physician by :
- Working within the approved scope of practice as designated for this type of professional.
- Obtaining complete medical history and physical data on patients.
- Interpreting and integrating data to determine appropriate diagnostic and therapeutic procedures as needed.
- Performing a complete physical exam and recording findings. Collaborating with physicians in managing acute and long-term medical needs of patients.
- Ordering appropriate laboratory and diagnostic procedures.
- Synthesizing data to determine preliminary diagnosis and therapeutic plan utilizing principles of prevention.
- Administering medications and injections according to physician direction. Suturing minor lacerations.
- Interviewing and advising patients regarding health and illness prevention. Recommending community resources to meet patient and family needs.
- Instructing patient and family regarding medications and treatment instructions.
- Maintaining and reviewing patient records, charts, and other pertinent information. Posting tests and examination results.
- Triaging patient telephone calls and providing consultation.
- Coordinating or when appropriate managing medical and surgical emergencies.
- Providing monitoring and continuity of care between physician visits.
Provides clinical and administrative assistance to BMG programs, e.g., education, follow-up, and the like by :
- Participating in health education.
- Maintaining related records and statistical data and preparing statistical reports as needed.
- Participating in interdisciplinary care conferences and assisting with referrals and dissemination of information to appropriate vendors.
- Assisting in the development and coordination of ongoing education and follow-up programs designed to measure client outcomes.
Performs other functions to maintain personal competence and contribute to the overall effectiveness of the department by :
- Assisting in development and compliance of clinical protocols, policies and procedures.
- Participating in quality review and improvement programs; monitoring quality and outcomes of care rendered.
- Communicating with physician(s) to ensure the quality and timeliness for services rendered to patients.
- Performing other job related assignments and special project as directed.

Associate complies with the following organizational requirements :
- Attends and participates in department meetings and is accountable for all information shared.
- Completes mandatory education, annual competencies and department specific education within established timeframes.
- Completes annual employee health requirements within established timeframes.
- Maintains license / certification, registration in good standing throughout fiscal year.
- Direct patient care providers are required to maintain current BCLS (CPR) and other certifications as required by position / department.
- Consistently utilizes appropriate universal precautions, protective equipment, and ergonomic techniques to protect patient and self.
- Adheres to regulatory agency requirements, survey process and compliance.
- Complies with established organization and department policies.
- Available to work overtime in addition to working additional or other shifts and schedules when required.

Education and Experience
The knowledge, skills and abilities as indicated below are normally acquired through the successful completion of a Bachelor's degree in Nursing.
A valid and current RN license in the state of Indiana is required. The successful completion of a nurse practitioner program with applicable national certification is required.
Two years of clinical nursing experience in practice area and successful completion of a Nurse Practitioner six month internship for new graduates or comparable experience is required.
Master's of Science Degree in Nursing is preferred. Attainment of prescriptive authority or successful completion of applicable course work and pass state board exam to obtain prescriptive authority within six months of hire date.
Bilingual speaking and / or writing skills are a plus.

- Requires a thorough knowledge of practice standards and policies and procedures of BMG and the appropriate professional organization.
- Requires a high level of analytical skills necessary to assess the patient and participate in follow-up care planning.
- Demonstrates interpersonal skills necessary to effectively interact with patient(s), family of patient(s), physicians, other professionals and paraprofessionals.
- Demonstrates high level of communication skills, both oral and written, necessary for effective communication with patient / family, physicians, and referral sources.
Working Conditions
Works in a clinic environment requiring physical exertion, frequent changes in job demands, certain undesirable patient care activities, and exposure to biohazards.
Physical Demands
Requires the physical ability and stamina (i.e. to walk / stand for prolonged periods of time, push carts / wheelchairs, lift up to 50 pounds, to position / lift patients at a maximum of 35 pounds without assistance, provide CPR, etc.
