About the role

The ideal candidate will be responsible for developing and implementing a comprehensive band program for students in grades 5 through 8.

This role involves teaching music theory, instrumental techniques, and performance skills while fostering a love for music and encouraging teamwork among students.

Key Responsibilities

• Develop and implement a dynamic and engaging band curriculum for students in grades 5-8.
• Teach instrumental music, including woodwinds, brass, percussion, and other band instruments, tailored to the developmental levels of middle school students.
• Conduct regular band rehearsals and prepare students for performances, including school concerts, community events, and competitions.
• Provide individual and group instruction to help students improve their musical skills and technique.
• Introduce students to a variety of musical genres and styles, fostering an appreciation for different types of music.
• Assess and monitor students progress, providing feedback and support to help them improve their musical abilities.
• Create a positive and inclusive classroom environment that encourages student participation and a love for music.
• Maintain and manage band equipment and instruments, ensuring they are in good condition and available for use.
• Collaborate with other music and arts teachers to coordinate performances and integrate music education with other subjects and school events.
• Communicate effectively with parents and guardians regarding students progress and any concerns related to music education.

Employment Qualifications

• Bachelors degree in Music Education, Music Performance, or a related field.
• Previous experience teaching band or instrumental music to middle school students is highly desirable.
• Proficiency in a variety of band instruments and strong knowledge of music theory and performance techniques.
• Excellent classroom management skills and the ability to motivate and engage students.
• Strong organizational and planning skills.
• Effective communication and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to work collaboratively with colleagues and contribute to a positive school culture.
• Experience with conducting and arranging music is a plus.

Work Schedule and Location

This is a part-time position with a flexible schedule to be determined based on the needs of the school and the availability of the candidate.

The position requires availability during regular school hours and occasional after-school events, rehearsals, or performances.

Compensation

• Compensation : $40-$45 / hour depending on experience
