About the Family & Social Services Administration (FSSA) :

FSSA was established by the Indiana General Assembly in 1991 to consolidate and better integrate the delivery of human services by state government.

FSSA is a health care and social services funding agency. Ninety-four percent of the agency’s total budget is paid to thousands of service providers ranging from major medical centers to a physical therapist working with a child or adult with a developmental disability.

The seven care divisions in FSSA administer services to more than 1.5 million Hoosiers. FSSA’s mission is to compassionately serve Hoosiers of all ages and connect them with social services, health care and their communities.

This role serves in the Office of the State Long Term Care Ombudsman (State Office), which is located within FSSA's Division of Aging, but physically housed in FSSA's Office of General Counsel (OGC).

The Long-Term Care Ombudsman Program (LTCOP) is a federally mandated Older Americans Act program that works to advocate for residents of long-term care facilities including nursing homes and licensed assisted living facilities.

Role Overview :

The Long-Term Care (LTC) Ombudsman Volunteer Program / Social Media Coordinator manages the LTC Ombudsman volunteer program, from recruiting new volunteers and ensuring appropriate placement and ongoing support, to assisting with training and developing relationships with local communities statewide to promote volunteer opportunities.

You will also create social media content to inform, engage, and recruit volunteers, as well as educate the public. Your role collaborates closely with the State Long Term Care Ombudsman (SLTCO) office and the local host agencies to oversee the volunteer program. Travel is required.

The ideal candidate will have a bachelor’s degree in Human Services, Nursing, Social Work, Psychology, Gerontology, or related field;

OR an equivalent combination of experience and education substituting one year of the required full-time professional / technical experience in long-term care for each year (30 semester hours) of the required education to a maximum of two years.

This candidate should be a Certified LTC Ombudsmen or successfully obtain the certification provided by the office of the State LTC Ombudsman.

Salary Statement :

The salary for this position traditionally starts at $47,320.00 but may be commensurate with education or work experience.

A Day in the Life :

The essential functions of this role are as follows :

  • Monitor key performance indicators to ensure program effectiveness.
  • Assist in developing, updating, and monitoring all policies and procedures related to the program area.
  • Answer customer questions about program policies and procedures.
  • Act as technical consultant to stakeholders to clarify and interpret policies and procedures.
  • Prepare and disseminate monthly and annual program reports.
  • Review the budget and program assets are allocated appropriately.
  • Monitor compliance and make recommendations to the program to increase efficiencies.
  • Prepare training materials and train agency employees on program requirements and usage.
  • Deliver communication plans and communications.
  • Serve as a liaison between agency and other state and federal agencies.

What You'll Need for Success :

You must meet the following requirements to be considered for employment :

  • a Bachelor's Degree and 1+ year of experience, or
  • an Associate's Degree and 3+ years of experience, or
  • at least 5+ years of experience applying the below, outlined knowledge, skills, and abilities in a similar role.

Related certifications and coursework may be considered for education or experience.

  • Working knowledge in program subject matter obtained through experience and / or education.
  • Specialized knowledge of program area including pertinent rules and regulations.
  • Basic knowledge of all source materials and references including federal and state laws governing the programs.
  • Ability to implement new principles and policies and discern any far-reaching implications.
  • Ability to communicate effectively.
  • The ability to apply general rules to specific problems to produce answers that make sense.
  • Ability to work effectively with a wide variety of stakeholders.
  • Working knowledge of accounting and budget principles.
