Job Summary
Canteen is hiring immediately for a Director of Sustainability. This exciting position will help Canteen to further our efforts around sustainability at both our client locations and our own physical warehouses.
Location : Preference for applicants in greater New York City, Philadelphia, Chicago or elsewhere on the East Coast / Midwest.
Could be based in one of our operations or remote.
Reporting to : VP of Sustainability & Product Innovation
Typical schedule : Monday through Friday, standard business hours
Travel : minimal, but as needed for business needs

To achieve this, we are investing in another sustainability-focused team member to join our existing group of leaders.
The Director of Sustainability will :
- Support account managers & operations teams by developing sustainability & wellness centered solutions for new and existing clients
- Develop and refine communications and engagement materials for Canteen associates
- Update and manage our internal and external facing sales, engagement, and training materials
- Assist in tracking a variety of sustainability and wellness data points to help monitor our progress and identify new opportunities
- Work with fellow team members in leading our Sustainability Champions associate resource group
- Support ongoing work by engaging with operations leaders on how they can reduce the footprint of their physical locations
Our ideal candidate :
- Understands how to gain influence and affect change in a highly matrixed, national organization
- Can communicate clearly, articulately, and with clear calls to action with multiple stakeholders. This includes written and oral communication, like Word, PowerPoint and possibly Canva or other digital design tools.
- Has a strong understanding of sustainability. You’ll notice this is surprisingly not at the very top of the list. Obviously, our ideal candidate clearly understands the science of sustainability, but also must be able to layer in the art of communication and activation to be successful.
- Can create and modify basic pivot tables in Excel. Bonus points for Power BI, Sigma.
- Bonus bonus points for someone with RD, RDN experience or other nutrition studies / wellness experience
Education and Experience :
- Bachelor’s degree
- Minimum of 1-3 years’ experience in contract services, account management, CPG retail, or sustainability
