JOB TITLE : Registered NurseDEPARTMENT : Pre-Op / PACUFLSA STATUS : Non-ExemptPOSITION SUMMARYAssesses, plans, implements, evaluates and documents nursing care of patients in accordance with established Federal, State and accreditation standards and company policies and procedures.
This position is accountable for the quality of nursing services delivered by self or others who are under his / her direction.
Participates in direct patient care and maintains a clean, orderly and safe environment.Job Duties : * Admits, prepares and discharges patients for surgery in an efficient and thorough manner.
- Ensures that all aspects of medical records are completed.* Maintains aseptic technique.* Assesses, plans, implements, and evaluates patient care in accordance with the physician's orders and patient's needs.
- Consistently demonstrates the ability for accurate, concise, and timely documentation in the medical record.* Assesses the patient's condition and nursing needs;
prescribes appropriate nursing actions to meet the physical, social, and rehabilitative needs of the patient, including discharge planning.
- Reports pertinent observations and reactions regarding patients to the physicians and records those observations accurately and concisely.
- Incorporates and demonstrates the knowledge of nursing practice including legal aspects, nursing process, and quality improvement.
- Identifies patient and family teaching needs and initiates intervention to meet needs.* Maintains and promotes a positive, safe environment for patients and co-workers.
- Demonstrates an ability to assume leadership and management responsibilities for the safe delivery of patient care.* Administers medications and IV solutions in a safe and effective manner.
- Assists with or initiates emergency measures for sudden adverse development in patient's condition.* Maintains an effective rapport with physicians, patients, family and staff members.
- Demonstrates complete knowledge of infection control and universal precautions, actively supports, and promotes strict adherence to policies and procedures as outlined in the departmental manuals.
- Monitors levels of inventory in accordance with desired quantities.* Attends departmental meetings and in-service education and shows responsibility for own professional practice and ongoing education.
- Participates in economical utilization of supplies and medication, and ensures that equipment is maintained in a clean and safe manner.
- Always provides proper notification and advance notice for absence or tardiness.* Observes the dress code.* Assists in the orientation of new employees.
- Attends and participates in departmental staff meetings.* Ensures individual skills are current by attending relevant educational programs.
- Participates in departmental fire and disaster drills.* Assists in the identification of patient-related potential problem areas for referral or quality review.
- Maintains patient confidentiality.EDUCATION / EXPERIENCE / CERTIFICATES / LICENSES / REGISTRATIONS* Graduate of an accredited Nursing Program required* Bachelors of Science Degree in Nursing preferred* Current Registered Nurse (RN) License required* Basic Cardiac Life Support (BCLS) required* Adult Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) preferred* Must have at a minimum previous nursing experience in at least one of the following settings : Ambulatory Surgical Center (ASC), PACU, ICU, Medical Surgical or Telemetry floors* Must be able to provide proof of their identity and their right to work in the United StatesLANGUAGE SKILLS / COMPUTER SKILLS* Printer, copier, telephone, and fax* Knowledge of patient monitoring and emergency equipmentPHYSICAL DEMANDSThe employee must be able to : * Walk, stand and sit for prolonged periods of time* Occasionally be able to lift and / or move up to 25 pounds* Occasionally be able to push up to an excess of 200 pounds* Occasionally be able to pull / lift patients with the assistance of other personnel and or assistive devices, up to an excess of 400-500 pounds* Occasionally be able to bend, stoop, kneel and climbACCIDENT OR HEALTH HAZARDS* Regular exposure to blood and body substances* Exposure to needle sticks possibleWORKING CONDITIONS* Works in well-lit and ventilated surroundings including pre-operative / PACU areas, nurse's stations, procedure rooms, lounge, etc.
