At New Horizons the Nurse is responsible for Keeping Kids First by providing oversight and guidance to the Ranch, one of our Residential Treatment Centers to assure medical well-being.
The RN ensures services are consistent with the program’s service standards by delivering trauma-informed and family-engaged care.
The RN collaborates with physicians, behavioral health staff, and direct care staff to support the overall treatment plan and improve health outcomes for youth with complex emotional, behavioral, and medical needs.
The Nurse is expected to obtain a thorough knowledge of the New Horizons’ Philosophy of Keeping Kids First and its Treatment Model; while demonstrating a commitment to continue to review, practice and operate within it.
Keeping Kids First requires that every decision and action be motivated by and geared toward meeting the highest need of the individual kid.
New Horizons will not tolerate anyone who is not committed to keeping kids safe from abuse, neglect and exploitation.
Duties and Responsibilities Follow the New Horizons’ Employee Handbook.
Coordinate with physicians, psychiatrists, therapists, and families to support holistic treatment planning.
Contribute to the development of expert knowledge on quality improvement frameworks.
Monitor physical health, respond to medical emergencies, and provide direct nursing interventions as needed.
Administer medications and maintain accurate medication administration records in compliance with state and federal regulations.
Review children’s initial medical records upon admission for any follow-up needed.
Conduct Psychotropic medication training in accordance with State guidelines and New Horizons policy.
Routinely and regularly review medication administration practices Review medication orders to verify dosages.
As applies – administer tests or vaccines for children.
Serve as an agency healthcare professional for all state mandated medication error reporting.
Ensure all care is trauma-informed, developmentally appropriate, and culturally responsive.
Participate in multidisciplinary team meetings and assist in the completion of health-related portions of assessments and ongoing service plans.
Train direct care staff in first aid, CPR, infection control, and safe medication practices.
Complete the necessary documentation for the position; and Other duties as assigned or identified by the Program Administrator, COO or CEO Provides 24-hour a day, on-call coverage.
Qualifications Current license as a Registered Nurse (RN) in the State of Texas, in good standing.
Applicants must be at least twenty-one (21) years of age.
Minimum 3 years’ experience in the healthcare field.
Applicants must have the ability to operate various office equipment.
Applicants must live in or near the Goldthwaite area or are willing to commute every day Applicants must have insight and an understanding of cultural diversity and have the ability to work with diverse populations.
Applicants must pass a criminal background check, drug screen, and tuberculosis screening.
Applicants must demonstrate effective oral and written communication skills, including proper telephone manners, as well as excellent organizational skills.
Applicants must have functional numerical skills, and an understanding of statistics related to medications and general medical documents.
Must demonstrate strong leadership, planning, organization, and problem-solving skills.
