Our client, a leading manufacturer with 50 years of expertise in embedded wireless connectivity modules, is looking for a Field Applications Engineer (FAE) to work 3 days from home and 2 days at their Santa Ana, CA location.
In this role, the FAE will split their time between presales and post-sales activities. During presales, they will support the sales engineers by addressing customer technical questions and providing technical guidance to the sales team.
In post-sales, they will work with customers' engineering teams to integrate and design the company's modules into their systems.
The ideal candidate will either have experience as an embedded FAE or be a hardware design or software engineer with strong embedded skills who is interested in transitioning to a customer-interfacing FAE role.
RESPONSIBILITIES :
- Serve as the primary technical contact for customers throughout their evaluation and design process with the company.
- Provide prompt, thorough responses to customer inquiries, while proactively seeking out crucial information needed for project success.
- Track and maintain detailed notes on customer interactions, project status, and issues.
- Guide customers from evaluation through production, managing all technically oriented customer calls.
- Handle post-sales technical support and address customer issues as needed.
- Assist customers w / debugging embedded hardware and software to successfully design in wireless modules into customers’ product / system.
- Continue professional development through webinars, technical papers, and in-depth training from the company colleagues.
MUST HAVE QUALIFICATIONS :
- B.S. or higher in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or similar technical field
- 4+ years of industry experience as either FAE or embedded, software, or hardware engineer.
- Ability to write, modify, and debug C code.
- Experience in debugging or modifying embedded device drivers.
- Basic knowledge of networking protocols, i.e., Wi-Fi or BLE.
- Solid understanding of hardware (digital) schematics and basic power design; capable of referencing schematics to probe test points on hardware.
- Hands-on experience with diagnostic tools such as multimeters, oscilloscopes, logic analyzers, etc.
- Excellent interpersonal skills, with strong communication and presentation abilities.
- Willingness to travel up to 10% to support customers on-site, attend trade shows, or participate in training events.
PLUS’ QUALIFICATIONS ( NICE’ TO HAVE - BUT 'NOT' REQUIRED) :
- 3+ years of experience in writing, modifying, and debugging embedded Linux wireless drivers.
- Working knowledge of Wi-Fi, BLE, Thread, Zigbee, and / or other 802.11 radio protocols.
- Familiarity with hardware layout, with the ability to use basic CAD software to view layouts and compare PCB board traces to schematics.
- Proficient in writing automated testing scripts using languages like Python.
