Union League Boys & Girls Clubs is seeking an experienced Controller and VP of Accounting to join our leadership team. This key position will provide strategic direction and oversight for all accounting functions, ensuring sound fiscal management, internal controls, and the prudent stewardship of organizational resources.
The Controller and VP of Accounting will lead financial forecasting, set financial goals, manage the Finance department, and oversee organizational assets, including facilities and technology.
The role also plays a critical part in HR record oversight and policy implementation, helping guide the organization’s overall financial health.

Key Responsibilities :
- Lead and manage all financial operations, developing and implementing systems, policies, and internal controls.
- Oversee cash, investment, and asset management, including facilities and technology.
- Develop financial strategies and manage cash flow planning, fostering strong relationships with banks and financial institutions.
- Utilize financial projections and activity-based models to support operational and business decision-making.
- Collaborate with General Counsel on legal matters related to financial contracts and investments.
- Provide accurate and timely financial analysis, reports, and trends to assist the CEO and Board in making informed decisions.
- Lead strategic planning efforts, including grant evaluation and forecasting the impact of external factors on operations.
- Manage the preparation and review of monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reports, including those presented to the Board.
- Oversee the execution of Finance, Investment, and 401K Committee decisions.
- Manage the capital and major renovation budgets and ensure accurate bank reconciliations.
- Ensure timely collection and vouchering of grants.
- Manage the investment portfolio in collaboration with external consultants and safeguard the organization’s assets through comprehensive insurance programs.
- Oversee employee 401K plans and maintain up-to-date HR records.
- Lead financial audits to ensure compliance with state and federal regulations.
- Maintain close collaboration with audit firms to ensure timely audit preparation.
- Review and address discrepancies in tax reports and internal records, submitting necessary adjustments to regulatory bodies.
- Manage and develop the Finance Team, including recruitment, training, and performance evaluations.
- Provide training and support to finance and non-finance staff on accounting principles and compliance.
- Promote continuous improvement through professional development and feedback initiatives.
Qualifications :
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field (Master’s degree preferred).
- CPA designation or equivalent preferred.
- Proven experience in financial leadership roles, preferably within public organizations or government agencies.
- Strong knowledge of financial regulations, reporting standards, and audit practices.
- Exceptional leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills.
- Experience in managing finance teams and collaborating with external financial services providers.
- Proficiency in financial software and accounting systems.
