Purpose / Summary
The Community College of Denver’s (CCD) educational programs are designed to enrich the social, civic, and economic fabric of our community, nation, and the world.

We currently enroll 8,032 students, the majority of whom are from racially minoritized populations. Thirty-three percent of CCD’s students identify as Hispanic, 32% as White;
10.6% as African American, 7% as International, 5.3% as Asian, 3.7% as more than one race, less than 1% as American Indian / Alaskan Native, and less than 1% as Hawaiian or Pacific Islander.

This position works collaboratively with other medical assisting faculty in a diverse, urban setting and reports directly to the Medical Assisting and Phlebotomy Chair.
Effective interpersonal, leadership, and organizational skills are essential. CCD seeks faculty with strong teaching skills to engage its diverse students using an array of instructional methods and tools (e.
g. project-based learning, flipped classroom, innovative use of technology, implementation of open educational resources, etc.

This is a faculty position with didactic, lab and internship teaching responsibilities.

Duties and Responsibilities
The primary duty for this position is teaching medical assisting and phlebotomy courses. The number of courses per semester varies depending on the modality of the class and the number of credit hours.
There will also be a service component to faculty duties.
The successful candidate will work collaboratively with other faculty to :
Teaching Responsibilities
Teach a predetermined number of workload units per semester.
Teach assigned didactic, lab and internship courses utilizing current educational methodologies
Work with department chair and instructors to maintain documentation and ensure compliance of clinical hours for students.
Monitor program and course curriculum performance against targeted success outcomes and quality standards and prepare student learning assessments.
Participate through ongoing involvement in external professional, regulatory, and / or accreditation organizations and professional certifications
Provide subject matter expertise in support of new and revised curriculum proposals
Work with cross-functional teams to ensure program and course content is rigorous, responsive, and relevant to workforce needs, and aligns to defined student competencies
Review and monitor student and course feedback to ensure the student voice is represented
Service to the college
Participate in clinical faculty meetings and other inter-collegiate committees as necessary.
Participate in committees and special functions such as graduation ceremonies, and other program functions.
Collaborate with other faculty and staff to promote a positive work environment.
Qualifications
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS :
Education :
An associate degree in medical assisting and a current industry recognized credential or certification in CMA, RMA, NCMA, CCMA or CMAA.
Experience :
- Two (2) years (4,000 hours) work experience relating to the field in the last 5 years
- One (1) year teaching experience in post-secondary and / or vocational / technical education location including online and in-person delivery methods
Knowledge / Skills / Abilities :
- Ability to teach billing and coding courses.
- Displays a high level of initiative, effort, and commitment towards completing assignments in a timely manner
- Ability to work with minimal supervision
- Computer skill proficiency; particularly in M / S Office programs including Word, Excel and PowerPoint.
- Experience with online course management systems and classroom Smart Room technology
- Ability to work with people from varied backgrounds and situations, and is sensitive to individual differences.
- Experience with classroom instruction and curriculum development.
- Knowledge of education theory and techniques.
- Knowledge of college and college system policies.
- Ability to work collaboratively with program faculty, Dean, and other college employees.
- Ability to implement new policies, and ensure compliance with accrediting agencies.
- Ability to effectively use Microsoft Office products, D2L, and other computer software as necessary.
Licensure / Certification :
A current industry recognized credential or certification in CMA, RMA, NCMA, CCMA, or CMAA.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS :
Education :
Bachelor’s degree or higher in Allied Health Discipline with Medical Assisting experience.
Licensure / Certification :
Registered Phlebotomy Technician preferred (AMT, NPA, ASCLS, ASPT, or NCCT).
CPR / FA certified, (AHA) preferred.
