Ideally, this Sr. Advance Manufacturing Engineer (AME) position will be based in Tacoma, WA, however we are open to the option of home base for this position being any of the following locations : Tacoma, WA;

Sacramento, CA; Simi Valley, CA; Temecula, CA.

The Sr. Advance Manufacturing Engineering (AME) will be the New Product Introduction (NPI) process owner who participates in cross functional teams providing operation support to launch New Product Introduction (NPI), lead operation strategic initiatives, and manufacturing footprint projects from scoping phase to commercialization.

  • Design, validation, and qualification of the manufacturing process, gather data (process / design) to drive process, design, or component improvement
  • Manage projects, which deliver capacity, throughput, and productivity improvements while reducing rejects, scrap, and rework
  • Develop program timeline, including launch planning, production tools, and processes
  • Lead business wide cross functional teams to launch new product introduction, strategic initiatives, and manufacturing footprint projects
  • Provide program / project management leadership, and be operations’ voice in business wide decision-making initiatives
  • Lead product development, commercial team, supply chain, suppliers, and operations to simultaneously engineer products and processes to optimize both product and process
  • Provide technical leadership and project support moving production systems between operations
  • Initiate product and process Engineering projects to reduce unit defects
  • Employ Lean tools (3P, Design for Manufacturing / Design for Assembly DFM / DFA, etc.) to reduce the cost of new products
  • Support, and be voice of operations for NPI continuous improvement actions
  • Provide real time production process capability information to Product Engineering to drive component design and rational tolerancing
  • Develop manufacturing systems, and related AFE to deliver future optimal requirements
  • Provide technical assistance and leadership to the planning and purchasing of new manufacturing equipment across the business to support existing processes
  • Increase the productivity and efficiency of existing and planned fabrication equipment
  • Lead operations staff and plant personnel to provide timely manufacturing feasibility information to Product Engineering to optimize product designs for production
  • Problem solving : Identify and resolve problems in a timely manner, gather and skillfully analyze information, develop alternative solutions, participate in group problem solving situations, and use reason even when dealing with emotional topics

  • Willing to travel up to 50% (Domestic mainly West Coast)
  • Bachelor of Science Degree in Mechanical / Industrial / Manufacturing Engineering
  • Preferred certifications : PMP, Lean Six Sigma (Greenbelt or higher) or ASQ Certified Quality Engineer
  • 5+ years’ experience in Advanced Manufacturing / Simultaneous Engineering / Manufacturing Feasibility
  • 10+ years’ involvement with Design / Production feasibility - Working experience with Design Failure Mode and Effects Analysis (DFMEA), Process Failure Mode and Effects Analysis (PFMEA), Design Verification Plan and Report (DVP&R), Design for Manufacturing (DFM), and Design for Assembly (DFA)
  • Preferred experience : 15+ years’ shop floor manufacturing experience including automation, and fenestration
  • Strong project management skills (ability to understand project bottlenecks & risks, and develop & implement mitigation plans)
  • Strong influencing and communication skills (ability to work with cross functional teams such as Product Management, Product Engineering, Supply Chain, Operations, and Sales teams within program scope)
  • Ability to make timely decisions, and apply sound judgment
  • Ability to organize tasks and manage time to complete multiple assignments simultaneously.
  • Ability to communicate at all levels within organization

Language Skills : Ability to read, analyze, and interpret common scientific and technical journals, financial reports, and legal documents.

Ability to respond to common inquiries or complaints from customers, regulatory agencies, or members of the business community.

Ability to effectively present information to top management and / or public groups.

Mathematical : Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference, and fundamentals of plane and solid geometry and trigonometry.

Reasoning Ability : Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with abstract and concrete variables.

Computer Skills : To perform this job successfully, an individual should have computer experience including Microsoft Office.

Experience with statistical software such as Minitab is preferred.

Physical Demands : The employee must occasionally lift and / or move up to 25 pounds.

Work Environment : The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate. Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) is required in certain areas of the facility.
