RESPONSIBILITIES

- Develops, coordinates, and supervises student activities, intramural programs, and interscholastic athletics.
- Supervises, hires, manages, and evaluates athletic coaches, activities sponsors, and security personnel.
- Maintain, track, and record required coaching certification as stipulated by the VHSL and APS Policy.
- Monitors Title IX compliance within the student activities program.
- Develops and implements Virginia High School League interscholastic schedules, tournaments, and programs, and attends district, regional and state meetings.
- Promotes an effective and efficient student activities program by giving and receiving information and assistance, determining student eligibility, resolving conflicts, providing officials and judges for activities, and participating in cooperative and collaborative efforts.
- Coordinates and communicates with Arlington Park and Recreation with scheduling facility usage and field maintenance needs.
- Schedules and manages the use of school facilities for school use and community including the development of a facility use calendar to include : meetings and walk-through of the facility for user groups and school.
Follow up includes invoicing when appropriate and obtaining rental documents as stipulated by APS Policy.
- Schedule, arrange, and coordinate school picture schedule for all student grade levels, clubs and athletics with the photography company to include communicating information school-wide (and to include parents).
- Facilitate, arrange and collaborate with coaching staff and PRCR on scheduling game days and practices throughout the sports season to ensure no conflicts with use of facilities.
- Determines eligibility of each participating student and ensures student data is entered into rSchool so master eligibility lists can be generated by the VHSL.
- Prepares student athletic handbook, VHSL Physical packets, student accident insurance as secured through APS and develops method to disseminate information to stakeholders.
- Arranges special school events such as banquets, award presentations, rallies, college signings, team send-offs, and facilities programs by outside groups interested in promoting student activities.
- Directs school fund-raising activities and oversees budgets and fund raising for clubs and extracurricular groups; actively promotes school clubs.
- Maintains athletic website and parts of the official school website with information as it relates to clubs and sports.
- Maintains channels of communication with staff, students, parents, and community.
- Establish a process and system for coaching staff to publish and promote team results for the community by implementing use of technology (VNN App and Pressbox).
- Implements staff development and professional continuing education programs.
- Ensures enforcement of discipline for students involved in activities, in regards to their academic eligibility and athletic sportsmanship.
- Develops athletic budgets and allocates funds, facilitating operations and may also participate in fundraising for the teams and to provide guidance to the students, coaches and sponsors in clubs and athletic programs.
- Serve as liaison between athletic boosters, crew and band programs.
- Evaluate, communicate and request short and long-term needs for athletic improvements / needs for budgetary line items that are beyond the normal scope of the athletic annual budget.
- Plan, budget and work to improve the school facilities and grounds aesthetically to communicate school pride, culture, history and legacy.
- Orders, distributes, and accounts for supplies, uniforms, and equipment.
- Performs related duties as required or assigned by the principal.
EXPERIENCE :
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
- Experience working with students, families, and staff from various cultural and linguistic backgrounds.
- Thorough knowledge of student activities and activity organizations within the school including athletic teams, clubs, and performing groups.
- Thorough knowledge of rules governing eligibility for participation in school activities.
- Thorough knowledge of community-use needs and resources.
- Good knowledge of budgeting and purchasing procedures according to school system auditing requirements.
- Ability to maintain positive working relationships with students, staff, and community.
- Ability to develop and maintain effective personal and public relations.
- Ability to communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing.
- Work requires frequent attendance at evening / night activities.
QUALIFICATIONS :
MINIMUM EDUCATION, TRAINING, AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS
Completion of college with a master’s degree, three years of successful teaching experience and three years of successful coaching experience;
or any equivalent combination of training and experience which provides the above noted knowledge, skills, and abilities.
Postgraduate Professional Certificate with endorsement in a teaching field.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS
- Bilingual skills preferred but not required.
