The National WWII Museum is currently seeking a Financial Controller. Reporting to the AVP of Accounting, the Controller is responsible for leading the daily accounting processes and providing guidance and oversight to the accounting team, managing the month end financial statement close process and preparation of monthly financial statements.
Requirements
- Own the month-end and year-end close processes, ensuring a regular and well-managed monthly accounting close process to produce accurate and timely financial statements.
- Oversee day-to-day financial accounting operations and supervision of the accounts payable specialist, accounts receivable specialist and senior accountant.
- Prepare journal entries for month end close and balance sheet reconciliations for key balance sheet accounts and ensures all transactions are recorded correctly in the general ledger.
- Prepare accurate and timely monthly financial reports including the Statement of Financial Position, Statement of Activities and Changes in Net Assets, Statement of Cash Flows and Consolidated Financials in accordance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP).
- Assist with the annual audit by preparing schedules and fulfilling requests for information.
- Assist with the annual budget and quarterly forecasting by working with departments assigned to prepare their budget and update forecast.
- Assist with the preparation of committee and board financial reports.
- Evaluate current accounting processes to streamline operations and improve efficiency.
- Perform analytics on data as requested from departments.
- Undertake other duties and special projects as assigned by AVP of Accounting.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance or related field. CPA / MBA preferred
- Strong understanding of generally accepted account principles (GAAP) and financial reporting.
- A minimum of five to seven years' experience in Accounting, public accounting experience a plus.
- Solid technology expertise including general accounting systems and advanced experience with Excel programs.
- Strong analytical ability to interpret financial data, with the ability to conduct research and resolve complex problems.
- Initiative, organizational skills and good judgment.
- Ability to work in fast-paced, deadline-driven environment.
- Detailed commitment to the accuracy and completeness of financial reporting.
- Ability to collaborate with department managers and senior organizational leadership on all matters relating to financial management.
- Strong communication skills, both oral and written.
