Job Purpose / Overview

The At-Home Diagnostics business within the Mars Science and Diagnostics division is bringing innovative new testing and monitoring solutions directly to pet parents to facilitate regular screening for diseases and monitor chronic conditions.

Supports a portfolio of brands including Wisdom Panel & Whistle.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities :

Lead, mentor, and build a diverse team of talented engineering managers, individual contributors and contractors.

Provide strategic direction and technical leadership to the engineering teams, aligning their efforts with the company's overall goals and objectives.

Serve as a thought leader and contribute to strategic decision-making and long-term initiatives.

Drive the development and execution of long-term Engineering roadmaps to support business growth and scalability.

Understand cross-functional business needs, build stakeholder alignment and make the appropriate tradeoffs without lowering the technical quality bar.

Drive innovation within the engineering organization, fostering a culture of experimentation and exploration.

Provide key leadership on engineering solutions in collaboration with product, design, scientist and marketing teams to build highly scalable and efficient technology across various frontend, backend, and B2B facing capabilities.

Collaborate with our business leaders to comprehend their short-term and long-term requirements, delivering transparent and timely updates throughout the process.

Maintain high accountability and a keen eyes towards reusability, efficiency and sale.

Be adept at introducing right level of process at the right point in organizational maturity.

Education and Experience :

15+ years of experience in software development with at least 10+ years of experience managing teams with directors and managers and large, impactful engineering and technical outcomes

Proven experience building teams with exceptional talent

Solid experience building massive backend, business and partner facing engineering capabilities

Excellent grasp of modern cloud friendly technologies built over multiple years of rigorous and progressive hands-on experience (AWS, GCP, Azure or comparable public cloud).

Solid experience using open source technologies to build engineering products at scale & high scale services

Deep knowledge of software engineering best practices, design & software architecture

Experience in building API Management Platform

Experience with production-grade machine learning tools

Deep understanding of architectural tradeoffs optimized for scale and throughput

Experience with human or animal health, biotech or related disruptive domain is a big plus

Minimum of Bachelors required; graduate degree in Computer Science or related field

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities :

Experience leading and managing high-performing engineering teams, including recruiting, hiring, and retaining top talent.

Strong sense of ownership and take initiative, while empowering your team to do the same

Excellent communication and interpersonal skills and ability to talk to both technical and non-technical audiences

Demonstrated excellence in collaborating, building relationships and proactive communication across both cross-functional teams and leadership

Ability to deliver high-value projects and experience in building systems and processes for fast paced growth-stage start-up type businesses
