About the Job
We are seeking an experienced Principal Engineer for Opto-Mechanical Design to join our growing team. This position will own the opto-mechanical design of our 800G and beyond optical transceiver products spanning module, CPO, and NPO applications, with a focus on laser to SiP PIC, SiP PIC to fiber, laser to fiber, and fiber to photodiode optical designs.
You will work across our technical teams and help us to deliver Lumilens’ family of optical transceiver solutions to market.
Responsibilities :
- Technical leadership of opto-mechanical design, modelling, and verification activities
- Work closely with photonic chip and subassembly designers to develop optical designs and validate optical designs for laser to SiP PIC, SIP PIC to fiber, laser to fiber, and fiber to photodiode coupling.
- Guide manufacturing process development and NPI for optical assembly through process simulation and subsystem characterization
- Support selection and verification of optical components and subassemblies through technical assessment
- Work closely with optical component and subassembly suppliers to understand and optimise optical performance for target use cases
- Empirically validate optical designs, including DOE definition and execution
- Independently iterate and test design approaches for rapid prototyping and proof of concept
- Support performance characterization of optical transceivers.
Required / Desired knowledge, skills, and abilities :
- MS or PhD in Mechanical Engineering, Physics, or related field
- 7+ years experience of opto-mechanical design related to single-mode optical transceivers with market success
- Proficiency in opto-mechanical design, tolerance analysis, design for athermalization, bonding, and assembly processes
- Proficiency in optical design tools such as Zemax, Code V.
- Familiar with Lumerical, KLayout, JMP, Matlab and / or Python
- Familiar with SolidWorks, Pro-E, or equivalent CAD tools
- Proficiency in Monte Carlo simulation of optical assemblies
- Proficiency in optical test methods, test equipment, and test execution for opto-mechanical design verification and validation
- Understanding of optical assembly processes and materials
- Understanding of relevant standards and MSAs
- Understanding of eye-safety classifications and regulations
- Experience with optical assemblies employing glass and silicon lens systems
- Ability to collaborate on multiple projects simultaneously
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including in-person and virtual presentation skills.
- Candidate will be required to spend the majority of time in our San Jose, California office. Some international travel required.
