Assistant Director of IACUC Administration

Description

Job Responsibilities

  • Day-to-day management of 2 protocol specialists veterinarians, 1 protocol specialist / IACUC administrator and 1 OAW staff assistant
  • Supervise reports, including hiring and performance management.
  • Leads ARIES (soon to be ) and PennERA troubleshooting, enhancements, and development particularly formally addressing aspects of the pre-review, protocol status, processing of submissions, and problem-solving.
  • Creates and institutes practices to improve the efficiency of protocol flow and faculty support.
  • Develop and implement regulatory research education and training for administrative staff, committee members.
  • Undertakes special projects, and other long term strategic planning for the Office; SOP development and maintenance.
  • IACUC membership.
  • Assists in the composition of regulatory annual reports, and communications with, regulatory and accrediting agencies, and University offices.

Qualifications

  • Master's Degree in a life science related field. ACLAM-boarded VMD / DVM degree or PhD preferred. CPIA certification required.
  • Minimum of 5-7 years of experience in laboratory animal medicine or IACUC administration is required as well as an in-depth knowledge of and ability to correctly interpret animal welfare laws, regulations, and policies.

Prior experience with in-vivo research may be considered.

  • Two years in a supervisory capacity required.
  • Strong communication, interpersonal, writing and information technology skills are required.
  • A faculty-oriented, customer service approach is paramount, demonstrating an ability to work effectively and diplomatically in a professional manner as well as to develop strong relationships and trust internally with faculty, their staff and University administrative staff.
  • Excellent organization skills with the ability to work effectively under pressure, prioritize critical tasks, and meet deadlines.
