Job Description
TIDAL is on a mission to serve artists and fans alike. As we are growing our artist focus, we are scaling up our teams to support the mission of providing artists with empowerment.
We are looking for an experienced lead to drive our efforts in our Membership platform and take ownership to build new products and services in an exciting setting.
The Subscription engineering team is responsible for the systems that power customer acquisition, retention, and payments and as such plays a key role in the success of TIDAL.
The team works tightly with other teams throughout TIDAL and BLOCK to create great experiences and products on great technology.
As a Staff Software Engineer in TIDAL, you appreciate close and collaborative work with other TIDAL teams. You prefer designing a solution in collaboration with stakeholders before starting code and excel in technical discussions.
You collaborate with teammates and present ideas to aim for the highest quality. You want and like to work as a team with friendly colleagues rather than alone.
You will lead a team of backend Java engineers in driving improvements to TIDAL's memberships platform. You will mentor the team and make sure it is thriving and driving the technical direction of the team.
Technical leadership acumen and business understanding are important factors for this role. Experience from an eCommerce and payments setting is highly relevant.
You Will :
- Lead a team of 7 Engineers
- Drive discussions by presenting ideas and designs to the team
- Take full ownership, scope, build and scale products
- Proactively identify opportunities for improvement and implement it
- Design and build scalable, reliable, and maintainable systems
- Expert on how services operate on an infrastructural level, be familiar with modern Public Cloud services, deployment strategies, and monitoring systems
- Lead complex projects where you take full ownership of the end-to-end ideation, design, build, and maintenance
- Build and maintain great relationships with stakeholders in and outside the tech department
- Lead and build a high-performing team and mentor other engineers in best practices and design / architecture
Qualifications
You Have :
- BA / BS degree or equivalent experience
- 8+ years of experience designing and shipping scalable, reliable, and maintainable systems
- 2+ years of leading projects
- Experience effectively managing demanding stakeholders and partner relationships
- Experience with cloud service providers (e.g. AWS, Google Cloud, Microsoft Azure)
- Skills with :
- Java frameworks
- Spring Boot
- AWS, Docker
- Preferred Skills :
- Frontend development experience using modern JS frameworks (React, Node.js or others)
- CICD : Jenkins, Spinnaker
- DataDog, Databricks, Terraform

Block takes a market-based approach to pay, and pay may vary depending on your location. U.S. locations are categorized into one of four zones based on a cost of labor index for that geographic area.
The successful candidate’s starting pay will be determined based on job-related skills, experience, qualifications, work location, and market conditions.
These ranges may be modified in the future.
Zone A : USD $239,600 - USD $359,400
Zone B : USD $239,600 - USD $359,400
Zone C : USD $239,600 - USD $359,400
Zone D : USD $239,600 - USD $359,400
