Job Summary : A Surgical Technologist, also known as a scrub tech, plays a vital role in the operating room, providing essential support to surgeons, anesthesiologists, nurses, and other surgical personnel during medical procedures.
Key Responsibilities :
- Preparation for Surgery : Set up the operating room with necessary instruments, supplies, and equipment. Ensure sterility and proper arrangement of surgical tools.
- Assist During Surgery : Pass instruments and supplies to surgeons and surgical assistants, adjust lights, and manage surgical equipment as required.
- Maintain a Sterile Environment : Uphold strict sterile field standards to prevent infection. Monitor and maintain sterility throughout procedures.
- Patient Care : Assist in preparing patients for surgery, which may include positioning, shaving, and disinfecting incision sites.
- Inventory Management : Keep track of surgical instruments and supplies, restocking as necessary and alerting staff to equipment needs or malfunctions.
- Post-Operative Responsibilities : Assist with the clean-up of the operating room, sterilizing and preparing instruments for future surgeries.
Skills and Qualifications :
- Completion of an accredited Surgical Technologist program.
- Certification as a Surgical Technologist is preferred.
- Strong knowledge of surgical instruments and procedures.
- Ability to work efficiently under pressure in a fast-paced environment.
- Excellent teamwork and communication skills.
- Physical stamina and manual dexterity.
Work Environment : Surgical Technologists primarily work in operating rooms in hospitals or outpatient surgery centers. The role involves standing for long periods and being on call for emergency surgeries.
