Job Description

About Shepherd

Our mission is to create the first comprehensive platform that combines top-tier insurance offerings with world-class software so commercial businesses can manage risk and prevent losses.

We're starting with the $10T commercial construction industry.

Our thesis is that technology can solve the sustainability challenges facing commercial insurance, and to accomplish this we're building a platform that incentivizes our clients to adopt the best tools when they buy our coverage.

Across construction and other commercial markets, technology is available but fundamentally underutilized, despite the potential for improving loss outcomes and stopping this crisis.

To date, Shepherd has raised $20M+ from top tier VCs including Y-Combinator, Susa Ventures, Spark Capital, Costanoa Ventures, Era Ventures, Greenlight RE and Intact Ventures.

About the Role

We're looking for a compliance analyst with 3+ years of P&C experience to join the Insurance team at Shepherd. You will work cross-functionally with our Compliance, Actuarial and Underwriting teams to support our ratemaking and product design functions.

You'll get exposed to life at an early-stage startup and help build a strong culture for the actuarial team and beyond.

What You'll Do :

  • Track changes in insurance regulations, advisory rates, and provide timely updates to internal stakeholders
  • Maintain forms database and implement any necessary rule changes
  • Collaborate with Actuarial on rate level indication process
  • Provide filing requirements expertise to cross-functional teams working on new product launches
  • Collaborate with the Head of Compliance and Head Actuary to compile, prepare and submit rate, rule, and form filings to state departments of insurance in compliance with regulatory requirements, as well as draft responses to any external inquiries

What You'll Bring :

  • 5+ years of experience in compliance and insurance
  • Knowledge of form / rate filings process and a comfort level with responding to any follow ups from state insurance departments
  • Familiarity with commercial insurance lines from an underwriting and actuarial perspective
  • Proficiency with policy forms, manuscript language, and policy review
  • Demonstrated ability to adapt to and manage multiple tasks simultaneously, thriving in dynamic environments.
  • Proactive approach to identifying issues and proposing solutions
  • Proven track record of taking initiative and demonstrating strong ownership over projects
  • Excellent communication and collaboration abilities, capable of working seamlessly both independently and as part of a team.

The salary range for this role is $80,000 to $105,000 for this position. Actual salaries will vary depending on factors including but not limited to location, experience, and performance.

The range(s) listed is just one component of Shepherd's total compensation package for employees. Other benefits include stock options, an unlimited paid time off policy, and 100% coverage on medical, vision and dental insurance.
