Job Description
We are seeking a highly experienced and detail-oriented Senior Estimator to join our team in Portsmouth, NH. This individual will be responsible for the development of cost estimates, scheduling, risk identification, and revenue forecasting for electrical transmission, distribution, and substation construction projects. The ideal candidate brings strong leadership and coordination skills and will manage the preparation and finalization of detailed, competitive bid packages for both large-scale and complex utility construction projects.
The Senior Estimator will play a crucial role in ensuring the accuracy and competitiveness of bids for various utility construction projects.
Responsibilities
- Prepare complete and accurate cost estimates for substation, transmission, and distribution projects using current industry standards and estimating software (e.g., HCSS, B2W, Accubid).
- Lead and coordinate the preparation of large-scale, multi-year program bids involving multiple subcontractors and complex deliverables.
- Ensure all estimates and proposals comply with the project contract and Owner’s bid requirements.
- Develop bid deliverables such as project schedules, execution plans, resource loading, cash flow projections, and clarifications / exceptions.
- Attend field walk-downs with clients, subcontractors, and internal construction teams to determine constructability requirements.
- Conduct field evaluations and material take-offs.
- Track and manage all bid documentation, including RFIs, addenda, and subcontractor / vendor quotes.
- Prepare and issue comprehensive subcontractor / vendor bid packages.
- Participate in estimate reviews with Chief Estimator and Senior Management, including risk analysis presentations.
- Support Project Managers and Purchasing team post-award to ensure a smooth transition from estimate to execution.
- Assist with change order preparation and project cost tracking throughout the project lifecycle.
- Lead negotiation and clarification processes to award stage.
- Report and present RFPs and estimates to senior leadership.
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Electrical, or Construction Management (preferred).10 years of experience in project management and / or estimating within the utility construction industry.At least 5 years in a dedicated estimating role.Hands-on experience in overhead / underground transmission, distribution, and substation construction is required.Proficiency with estimating software such as HCSS, B2W, or Accubid.Strong analytical, organizational, and communication skills.Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a team.Skills
