The Vice President of Human Resources is a strategic partner on the senior leadership team and works to build an equitable culture and organization that executes effectively on goals and objectives to advance the mission.

As leader of the Human Resources team, the Vice President will provide leadership and management of workplace experience, talent management, human resource compliance, and organizational development, with a focus on fostering a positive, high-performing, and equitable workplace culture.

The Vice President provides regular counsel to the senior leadership team in the implementation of forward-looking vision aimed at enhancing employee excellence, talent experience, and an equitable and inclusive anti-racist culture.

The position will lead and manage the Becoming an Equitable Institution (BEI) initiative, YWCA's internal effort to build a more equitable workplace.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Strategic People & Culture Leadership (20%)

  • Develops and implements equity-focused human resources strategies, policies, and programs that support YWCA's mission and goals.
  • Serve as a strategic partner to the Senior Leadership team and regularly contribute analyses and data to inform decisions that impact employees.
  • Provides effective leadership and vision for the Human Resources team.
  • Provides strategic leadership and oversight in collaboration with key staff in refining and implementing a multi-year, permanent effort to build a more equitable workplace culture and promote employee engagement that aligns with the YWCA mission to eliminate racism and empower women.
  • Sets and manages department budget in alignment with strategies.

Talent Acquisition and Retention (15%)

  • Develops and implements DEI-focused recruitment, selection, and hiring strategies and processes that attract and retain mission-aligned, diverse talent.
  • Develops strategies to enhance employee retention, engagement, and satisfaction, including the delivery of a robust onboarding and orientation process that integrates new hires into YWCA's culture and values.
  • Design and implement robust performance management systems that nurture a strong and effective culture of supervision that supports continuous employee development and improvement through high-quality expectation setting, coaching, feedback, and performance evaluation, resulting in the retention of high-performing staff.
  • Develops and oversees succession planning, resulting in smooth leadership transitions, and intentionally identifies and cultivates diverse leaderships across the organization.

Organizational Culture and Employee Engagement (15%)

  • Oversees organizational change initiatives and educates and prepares leadership across the organization to promote and reinforce organizational cultural change.
  • Cultivate and promote a positive and equitable organizational culture that reflects YWCA values and mission.
  • Champion employee recognition and reward programs to celebrate achievements and contributions.
  • Implement other strategic priorities related to people and culture set by the organization's strategic plan.

Learning and Development (15%)

  • Develops and implements organizational learning and professional development strategies across the organization to promote a culture of anti-racist learning, mutual care and wellness, and high performance and accountability.
  • Ensures a system is in place to properly track and record all learning, development and acquired certifications for all staff.

Employee Relations and Compliance (10%)

  • Ensures that the organization fosters a positive and inclusive work environment.
  • Establishes and implements processes to ensure full support and timely responsiveness to employees confronting personnel or management conflicts or challenges.
  • Advises on all employee and manager HR-related issues and concerns, including assisting supervisors through the corrective action process ensuring appropriate steps are taken for disciplinary actions.
  • Ensure compliance with all relevant employment laws and regulations.
  • Manages the annual updating of the employee handbook to ensure compliance, equity focus, and cultural and mission fit.

Compensation and Benefits (10%)

  • In partnership with the Chief Executive Officer and Vice President of Finance and Operations, sets equity-focused total rewards strategy and benefits packages to attract and retain mission-aligned talent.
  • Oversee implementation of the YWCA compensation structure and administrative protocols to ensure consistent application of the structure across the organization.
  • Oversees the selection of annual benefits selection and manages relationship with benefits broker.

Supervision (10%)

  • Hires, develops, motivates, and maintains a highly functioning team that demonstrates positive morale and adheres to high standards of service delivery.
  • Sets and regularly reviews professional goals, expectations, and accomplishments and provides regular supervision and coaching to support performance needs.
  • Recognizes and records staff accomplishments and disciplinary issues.
  • Stays current with agency technology and its proper usage, including but not limited to taking the initiative to seek out personal training opportunities, training direct reports on proper usage, and ensuring staff maximize their efficiency with the use of available technology.
  • Acts as primary liaison between leadership and direct reports and ensures timely, thorough, and effective organizational communication so staff feels informed and aware of organizational policies, practices, and procedures, and growth.
  • Effectively advocates for staff by regularly soliciting staff input and representing staff needs and interest to agency leadership.
  • Ensures all staff understand and adhere to all policies in the Employee Handbook.
  • Ensures compliance with the YWCA Supervisor Handbook.

ADDITIONAL DUTIES (5%)

  • Provides and attends staff trainings and participates in agency committees.
  • Pursues professional development.
  • Understands and adheres to all YWCA Evanston / North Shore procedures and policies as well as YWCA Employee Handbook.
  • Performs other duties as assigned by management.

Requirements :

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education : Bachelor's degree in human resources, human resource development, organizational psychology, or related field.

Experience and / or Training :

  • Minimum of 10 years of experience in senior-level roles within the field of human resources.
  • At least 5 years of experience advancing organizational equity initiatives.
  • Experience leading organizational change management.
  • At least 5 years of supervision experience.

Licenses / Certificates :

  • SPHR or SHRM-SCP
  • Successful completion of Illinois 40-Hour Domestic Violence Training Certificate within 6 months of starting employment

Technology / Equipment :

  • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite
  • Intermediate experience with an HRIS.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

Education : Graduate Degree in human resources, organizational psychology, organizational change management, or organizational learning and development.

Experience and / or Training :

  • 12 years' experience in senior to executive level roles within the field of human resources.
  • Experience in the nonprofit sector.
  • At least 8 years of supervision experience.
  • Experience leading organizational change efforts to advance internal equity.

Licenses / Certificates :

Relevant professional certifications in DEI.

Technology / Equipment :

Intermediate proficiency with online job posting platforms.

PHYSICAL AND MENTAL DEMANDS
