Guardian Agriculture is seeking a Senior Manufacturing Engineer to play a key role in helping to launch our new product leading and executing manufacturing readiness activities with the internal manufacturing team and outside suppliers, to be responsible for rapidly iterating and building cutting-edge Autonomous Vehicles.

You will be responsible for ensuring that designs are optimized for mass production through DfX (Design for Excellence).

You will continually improve released products to achieve cost reduction and volume growth goals. Your expertise in new product introduction, commodity knowledge, quality improvement, and production scaling will be essential to success in this position, which spans the entire product lifecycle.

This is an onsite, 5 days per week, role in our Woburn, MA office.

Responsibilities

  • Execute manufacturing readiness with internal and external teams for new products and processes.
  • Collaborate with product design teams to ensure manufacturability of new products and provide input on design for manufacturability (DFM) principles.
  • Create and drive production schedule and manage the production team to execute on time and at quality
  • Manage technicians and other engineers in a hands-on fashion building prototype hardware.
  • Develop novel fixtures and tooling solutions for fabrication and assembly of structural parts.
  • Develop and maintain manufacturing documentation, including work instructions, process flowcharts, and standard operating procedures, required for successfully manufacturing hardware at scale.
  • Develop process flows, breaking down large, complex assemblies into a logical part flow of subassemblies and sub-processes.
  • Design and implement process improvements to enhance product quality, reduce costs, and increase efficiency.
  • Work with contract manufacturers across various disciplines (printed circuit board fabrication (PCB), metal / plastic manufacturing, assembly, etc.

to develop repeatable, sustained processes for quick-turn development as well as at-scale production

  • Conduct research and feasibility studies related to manufacturing methods, materials, and equipment.
  • Lead continuous improvement initiatives to drive productivity improvements.
  • Provide technical support to internal and external production teams.
  • Conduct root cause analysis and implement corrective actions for manufacturing defects and field non-conformities.
  • This role is full-time and on-site.

Qualifications

  • Degree in Mechanical / Manufacturing / other Engineering, Math, or a hard Science, and / or applicable technical experience.
  • 10+ years of experience in mechatronics production design and execution or equivalent field supporting production and / or electromechanical hardware design.
  • Demonstrated leadership and project management skills in areas of new product introduction, continuous improvement, and cost reduction programs.
  • Experience managing production in early product
  • Proficiency in CAD software (e.g., Onshape, SolidWorks).
  • Broad knowledge of lifecycle management through Arena / Omnify PLM, or equivalent.
  • Experience working with product development teams, suppliers, vendors, and contract manufacturers.
  • Experience in taking a design and creating a controlled manufacturing process from that design for rate.
  • Experience with large-scale low-volume / high-mix manufacturing.
  • Demonstrated ability to deliver electromechanical hardware to spec (ideally in a start-up environment).
  • Personal experience physically manufacturing hardware via any means (machining, fabrication, soldering, assembly, etc.).
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills with the ability to collaborate across cross-functional teams.
  • Must be able to work at Guardian offices in MA. Up to 10% travel, for example to contract manufacturing suppliers.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Prior experience working with Jira / Confluence is a plus.
  • Hands-on experience qualifying parts for production is a plus.
  • Experience with Carbon Fiber, Composites, and Adhesives is a plus.
  • Experience working with electrical systems up to 400Vdc is a plus.
  • Work on personal or extracurricular projects is a plus.
