Our Opportunity :

Chewy is seeking a Principal Software Engineer for our team in Boston, MA or Minneapolis, MN, Plantation FL or Dallas, TX.

The ideal candidate will have a proven track record in edge computing, CDN delivery, and web performance optimization. Leveraging your extensive experience, you will guide a team of engineers to drive the delivery of high-performing and efficient web applications, ensuring optimal user experiences across various devices and locations.

You will collaborate closely with cross-functional teams to implement cutting-edge edge computing solutions and CDN strategies, contributing to the continuous improvement of our web performance and optimization capabilities.

What You'll Do :

  • Effectively communicate with and influence key stakeholders across the enterprise, at all levels of the organization
  • Actively mentor a team of engineers to design, develop, and deploy edge computing solutions that enhance website speed, reliability, and scalability
  • Develop and execute CDN delivery strategies that optimize content distribution and reduce latency for a global user base
  • Collaborate with product managers, engineering leadership, and other stakeholders to define and prioritize web performance goals and optimization initiatives
  • Perform thorough performance analysis, identify bottlenecks, and implement effective solutions to enhance overall website speed and responsiveness
  • Display excellent verbal and written communication and be able to convey dissenting opinions in a constructive manner, particularly written communications
  • Hiring, training, mentoring and growing new talent will be a major part of your job
  • Generate and analyze engineering metrics to inform leadership in making data driven decisions
  • You will participate in setting guidelines for evolving development practices

What You'll Need :

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field.
  • Exceptional leadership, communication skills
  • 12+ years of professional experience in software engineering, with a focus on edge computing, CDN delivery, and web performance optimization.
  • Proficiency in at least one of the programming languages such as JavaScript, Python, or Java, and experience with relevant frameworks.
  • In-depth knowledge of web protocols, networking, and content delivery best practices.
  • Hands-on experience with performance measurement and monitoring tools.
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams
  • Position may require travel

Bonus :

  • Experience in e-commerce or retail
  • Akamai CDN or multi-CDN experience
  • Experience with cloud platforms such as AWS
  • Infrastructure automation through DevOps scripting (E.g. shell, Python, Ruby, PowerShell)
