STRUCTURAL HELPER
SALARY RANGE : $18.00-$21.00
JOB DESCRIPTION
SUMMARY / OBJECTIVE
The Structural Helper 1 is an entry level position into the Structural Department that provides needed support to Welders, Shipfitters, Welder / Shipfitters.
To assist and learn the traits in the respective departments. Structural Helper 1 must possess trade specific tools.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS / DUTIES
- Loads vehicles using hand truck or dolly
- Collects and disposes trash in accordance to local and state laws
- Removes paint and scale from ships metal surfaces, using hand or powered wired brushes or similar tools
- Conveys material and tools to work site
- Extinguishes fires as needed as per training provided
- Observes hot work to ensure area remains free of obstacles and hazardous materials as per training provided
- Able to identify hazardous materials and working conditions and apply proper safety precautions and PPE required for each
- Run lines and leads
- Learn Blueprint & Weld symbol proficiency
- Learn to understand Work Specifications
- Must adhere to a promote ALL company safety policies. Wear all required PPE when in Production areas and promote a clean and safe work environment.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
The Structural Helper 1 must be able to meet and successfully perform the essential functions of this job. The following physical demands are representative to the position.
The position is active and requires extensive standing, walking, sitting, bending, kneeling, stooping, crawling, climbing, and crouching.
Along with such movements, employee is required to lift parts / machinery of up to 75 pounds. Additional demands are listed below :
- Able to climb ladders and work off scaffolding
- Able to lift, carry, and or push up to 50 75 lbs. throughout the shift (including overtime)
- Exposure to loud noises, vibrations, fumes, & airborne particles. This position will require continuous use of ear protection, eye protection and other safety equipment.

KNOWLEDGE / SKILLS
- Must be able to evaluate the use of various resources and make knowledgeable decisions regarding safety and company procedures and policies
- Able to operate sawzall, 4 & 7 grinders, and various other tools
- Basic hand tool usage
- Read a measuring tape
- Learn how to operate press brakes, sheers, rollers, ironworker, overhead crane
