Job Summary :
The primary responsibilities of this position are coordinating and assisting with clinical studies conducted in Dr. Melanson's research group.
Equally important, the candidate is expected to represent the University, Department, and Division, both internally and externally, professionally, and positively, thereby upholding our institution's reputation.
This position requires the candidate to be on campus five days per week, underscoring the necessity of their full availability for the role.
Key Responsibilities :
- Act as a Primary Coordinator on multiple trials / studies, overseeing recruitment efforts, screening, consenting, and scheduling of participants.
- Maximize retention of study participants.
- Conduct or assist with research procedures, including but not limited to body composition measurements, energy expenditure, exercise capacity, and metabolic rate.
- Maintains subject-level documentation and prepares documents, equipment, and / or supplies.
- Perform data entry and quality assurance procedures in an accurate and timely manner.
- Maintain detailed records of studies to ensure compliance with requirements of study protocols, department, hospital / clinical Standard Operating Procedures, and other regulatory guidelines.
Work Location :
Onsite - this role is expected to work onsite and is located in Aurora, CO.

The Energy Metabolism Lab was founded in 2019 and is directed by Edward Melanson, PhD. The lab focuses on studying energy metabolism and physical activity, particularly how these change in response to lifestyle interventions involving exercise, diet, weight loss, and sleep.
The Energy Metabolism Lab provides resources for assessing energy expenditure under highly controlled conditions using whole-room indirect calorimetry and free-living conditions using doubly labeled water, as well as physical activity using various activity monitors.

Qualifications :
Minimum Qualifications :
Intermediate Level :
- Bachelor's degree in any field.
- One (1) year clinical research or related experience.
Senior Level :
- Bachelor's degree in any field.
- Two (2) years clinical research or related experience.
A combination of education and related technical / paraprofessional experience may be substituted for the bachelor's degree on a year for year basis.
Applicants must meet minimum qualifications at the time of hire.
Preferred Qualifications :
- Bachelor's degree in science or health related field such as physiology, exercise physiology, or biology.
- Three (3) years of clinical research or related experience.
- Experience with electronic data capture systems (e.g. EMR or EHR and data management systems).
- Previous experience in performing metabolic measurements using indirect calorimetry and body composition.
Conditions of Employment :
- Pass required research compliance courses (CITI, HIPAA, etc.).
- Possess (or obtain) basic life support (BLS) certification and maintain certification throughout employment.
- Able to be flexible in daily work schedule, including early mornings, evenings, and weekends.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities :
- Knowledge and understanding of federal regulations and Good Clinical Practice (GCP).
- Ability to communicate effectively, both in writing and orally.
- Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with others at all levels throughout the institution.

- Demonstrated commitment and leadership ability to advance diversity and inclusion.
- Knowledge of basic human anatomy, physiology, and medical terminology.
- Ability to interpret and master complex research protocol information.
- Strong organizational skills.
- Basic knowledge of data management, collection, quality control, and analysis methods.
- Critical thinking and problem-solving skills.
- Proficient with computer software including Microsoft Word, Outlook, and Excel.

The starting salary range ( or hiring range ) for this position has been established as :
Intermediate Level : $51,956 - $66,088
Senior Level : $56,169 - $71,447
