Small Animal Surgery - Orthopedics and Small Animal Surgery - Soft Tissue. Positions may be full or part-time, tenure or clinical track, and at any level (assistant, associate, or full professor).

The University of Minnesota College of Veterinary Medicine is seeking surgeons (orthopedic or soft tissue). The department and hospital are dedicated to supporting the successful candidate in professional development and subspecialization as desired.

The small animal hospital has state of the art diagnostic and treatment abilities including a new 3T MRI, a 264 slice CT to be installed at the end of 2022, cone beam CT, intraoperative fluoroscopy, arthroscopy including a nanoscope, multidirectional table for advanced thoracoscopy and laparoscopy procedures, and cardiopulmonary bypass equipment.

Strong collaborative relationships exist between surgery and other sections in both research and clinical settings to provide the best patient care possible.

There are also strong collaborations with the Medical School and physicians may aid in adapting human procedures to animals or collaborating in research.

For those with strong research interests, there are grant writing workshops, support in handling the press, and feedback on internal grants.

For clinical research, there is a Clinical Investigation Center that performs clinical trials as designed by an investigator including those that require Good Clinical Practice designation.

There are many collaboration opportunities with the colleges of Medicine, Public Health, Dentistry, Nursing, and Pharmacy.

Teaching is supported with training, computer support, and aids with materials. There are multiple resources for educational scholarship and teaching aids.

  • Faculty do not provide any primary emergency duty, but provide back up to the residents.
