The Principal Process Hazard Analysis (PHA) Engineer focuses on refineries. The Engineer is responsible for managing process hazard analysis (PHA) and layer of protection analysis (LOPA) engagements with clients at locations around the U.
S., but international locations may be possible if desired. Individuals selected for this position will be responsible for leading and / or scribing PHAs, LOPAs, and performing related consulting activities with a focus on the refining industry.

Candidates may live anywhere with work performed at refineries in Lake Charles, LA; Corpus Christi, TX; Romeoville, IL; Houston, TX.
Travel could be up to 50% and the company will reimburse for eligible travel related expenses.
What You Will Do :
- Lead Process Hazard Analysis (PHAs) using a variety of methods (HAZOP, What-if, checklists, etc.) and Layer of Protection Analysis (LOPA) to provide risk identification / assessment
- Prepare, facilitate, and write recommendations and reports for the PHA (using HAZOP, what-if, checklists, etc.)
- Selecting appropriate PHA methodology based on the complexity of the process and hazards involved
- Ensure the PHA scenarios, consequences, safeguards, and recommendations are complete and correctly identified and captured
- Read and interpret Piping & Instrumentation Drawings, Cause & Effect Charts, Instrument Diagrams, etc.
- Collaborate directly with clients on technical aspects of the projects and can communicate technical requirements and deliverables clearly and concisely.
- Other related responsibilities as assigned.
What You Will Need :
- Bachelor's degree in engineering, preferably chemical or mechanical engineering discipline
- At least 15 years of process safety experience and knowledge of OSHA's process safety. management (PSM) standard (29 CFR 1910.
119) and / or EPA's rule on risk management programs (40 CFR 68).
- Facilitated at least twenty (20) PHAs of process units with three (3) of them including a LOPA evaluation.
- Experience in the oil and gas or petrochemical industry, refinery experience preferred.
- Extensive experience participating on PHA teams as leader and scribe.
- Currently have, or the ability to obtain a TWIC card.
- Fifteen (15) or more years of experience facilitating PHAs and LOPAs.
- Knowledge of safety systems (Fire & Gas, Deluge, ESD) and safeguards.
Compensation : $175,000 - $185,000. Eligible for additional compensation on eligible project work that exceeds 40 working hours per week.
