A licensed andcredentialed Nurse Practitioner (NP) provides diagnosis treatmentconsultation and followup under the direction of 1 or morephysicians in the clinic.

The NP provides age andspecialtyappropriate medical care at the level of trainingachieved. As an expert professional the Nurse Practitioner isresponsible and accountable for the application of the nursingprocess supervision of clinical practice research involvementconsultative services inter and intradepartmental liaison educationleadership and patient care management across the healthcarecontinuum from preventative acute care throughdischarge.

ESSENTIALRESPONSIBILITIES / DUTIES :

ClinicalPractice

• Providesdirect care counseling and teaching to patients and familiesaccording to established collaborative protocols and standards ofcare.
• Sets priorities for appropriate andefficient management of patient care that reflects costeffectivemanagement of time available human resources supplies andequipment.
• Performs physical examinations andprovides preventive health measures within prescribed guidelinesand appropriate to patient needs.
• Ordersinterprets and evaluates appropriate lab and diagnostic tests toassess patients clinical problems and health careneeds.
• Based on the outcome of diagnostic laband physical assessment findings arrange for appropriate plan ofcare and followup.
• Evaluate outcomes of patientcare and make necessary revisions in the careplan.
• Seeks and provides consultative servicesas required.
• Through patient education andcounseling incorporate the concepts of health maintenanceprevention and promotion into dailypractice.
• Demonstrates awareness of communityresources and assists staff patients and families to effectivelyutilize them.
• Demonstrates the knowledge andskills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age groups ofpatients regularly served.
• Notifies supervisorwhen patients in age groups not regularly served present and seeksassistance from individuals with the knowledge of the specializedneeds of such patient agegroups.

OtherDuties

EDUCATION :

Mastersdegree in nursing required. Completion of an accredited educationalprogram for nurse practitioners or physician assistants isrequired.

CERTIFICATESLICENSES REGISTRATIONSREQUIRED :

• Currentlicense to practice as a registered nurse in the Commonwealth ofMassachusetts with authorization by the Board of Registration inNursing to practice in an expandedrole.
• Registered with the ANCC or otheraccrediting organization for NursePractitioners.
• Registered with the State ofMassachusetts and DEA for prescription writingprivileges.
• Current BLS and ACLSCertification.

EXPERIENCE :

Aminimum of three years of current clinical nursing experience andtwo years of experience in adult practice are required.

Priorexperience in Occupational Health ispreferred.
