Apply to a med / surg position today to get a strong foundation and begin your career path to become an OB nurse.

At UPMC Harrisburg, we value growth and development for our employees. We are looking for graduate nurses interested in obtaining experience in our Med Surg units and then advancing into our OB units.

Beginning your career in the Med Surg units will allow you to gain the basic knowledge and skills as a new nurse and then expand on those skills as you move into specialized units.

By starting in the Med Surg, we would allow early transfer to the OB units as positions become available and will prioritize internal transfers.

You will be chosen for one unit this is not a float position between units.

We have positions available for Med Surg in the following departments :

Main 5 is a 29-bed acute care medical unit that is dedicated to providing high quality compassionate care to a diverse adult and geriatric patient population.

The majority of patients come to Main 5 through the Emergency Department with medical diagnoses related to the endocrine, integumentary, gastrointestinal, renal, respiratory and genitourinary systems.

We specialize in the orientation of new graduates where you will gain valuable experience as you begin your nursing career.

You will find an environment that fosters teamwork and support, professional growth, shared decision making and a focus on a healthy work / life balance.

We look forward to meeting you!

Orthopedics (AG7) is a 42 bed post-surgical care unit featuring all private patient rooms. The majority of our admissions are elective surgeries, which makes us unique in that our patients plan their visit here with us.

We have patients who come in for Orthopedic, General, Urology, Women’s, and Podiatry Surgery. We also receive patients as direct admits as well as through the emergency department, who are brought in for surgery.

We are a high energy, fast-paced unit that works with multiple disciplines to coordinate our overall care for each patient individually.

We care for many different surgical populations; therefore, we provide a great opportunity for new nurses to fine tune their skills and really be able to "pull it all together" from what they learned in school.

The foundations learned on AG7 will set you up to be a successful nurse with many different patient populations. We foster a team approach, shared governance, and offer multiple educational opportunities for career growth.

We look forward to meeting you!

Acute Care Cardiac (Core 7) is a 26-bed acute cardiac care unit dedicated to providing the highest quality, compassionate care to a wide variety of patients.

The patient population of Core 7 consists of individuals with multiple comorbidities experiencing cardiac arrhythmias, and those undergoing cardiac procedures requiring constant cardiac monitoring, and medicated drips to maintain stable heart rates and rhythms.

Our unit is fast paced, and is a great environment to learn time management skills, prioritization abilities, assessment skills, and clinical reasoning.

Our unit staff is committed to providing the best care to our patients and our team members alike. The leadership and staff of Core 7 support teamwork, interdisciplinary team building, shared governance, and professional growth.

Thank you for your interest in Core 7. We look forward to meeting you!
