Summary
Administers all pre-award and post-award management obligations for grant proposals to, and awards from, extramural sources such as federal, state, foundation, and corporate agencies for the Department of Neurosurgery.
Coordinates the issuance and accountability of sub-awards to collaborators that may be funded through MUSC-awarded grants to ensure compliance with institutional, state, and funding requirements.
Provide support to Principal Investigators (PI) in submission of documentation required by funding agencies, including but not limited to financial reports, progress reports, and close-out reports.
Liaises with the Office of Research and Sponsored Programs and Grants and Contracts Accounting Office on behalf of PI to ensure compliance with financial management of extramurally funded awards.

Job Duties :
40% - Coordinate with Grants and Contracts Accounting office for post-award management. Works with Finance and Administration to establish FDM.
Coordinates the issuance and accountability of sub-awards to collaborators that may be funded through MUSC-awarded grants to ensure compliance with institutional, state, and funding requirements.
Coordinates grant-related expenditures with departmental administrative staff to assure appropriate allocation of resources for salaries and fringe, equipment, distribution of indirect costs, as examples.
30% - Manages the annual research budget process. Works with the Department Vice Chair of Finance and Administration to identify upcoming fiscal year resource needs, growth expectations, faculty / staff recruitment, and other issues that would affect the coming fiscal year.
Develop the annual budget using historical trends and future projection that include and incorporate grant impact on revenue and expense and approved strategic initiatives within the Departments.
Work closely with the Finance and Administration Division to ensure the annual budget is submitted timely and consistent with COM and University guidelines.
Manages a monthly budget to actual review to identify variances and trends. Meets with the Principal Investigators (PI).

15% - Create and distribute monthly grant financial reports to Principal Investigators (PI). Work with PI to manage grant expenditures to ensure that grant funds are expended in a timely manner.
Report monthly to Vice Chair of Finance & Administration regarding financial status of grant funds.
10% - Communicate effectively with department chairs, division leaders, faculty, staff, institutional representative and others to optimize college administration.
5% - Other duties and projects as assigned.

Minimum Requirements : A bachelor's degree in business administration, public administration or the social sciences and four years' experience in contracts and grant administration activities.
