General Schedule
Position typically works Monday-Friday from 8am to 5pm.
Position Overview
Entry-level position for a mechanically inclined individual who is able to study and discuss learning material, apply knowledge on the job, learn the methodology of various plumbing systems, and effectively communicate with team members.
Assist other plumbing team members in numerous services supporting our mission.
Departmental Job Functions
Assist with common maintenance occurrences such as unstopping sewer systems or fixtures, changing filters, and cleaning and maintaining water features.
Repair or replace domestic water piping, sewer piping, storm drains, and roof piping. Diagnoses issues using sewer video equipment.
Repair or replace natural gas lines by threading black pipe or performing electrofusion for polyethylene piping. Detect and pinpoint leaks.
Install, upgrade, or replace various plumbing fixtures to include water heaters, eye wash or safety shower equipment, sump pumps, and French drains. Perform line locates.
May operate large equipment such as a commercial jet sewer machine, backhoe, trencher, or a boat.
Available to help with and facilities emergency. This may necessitate the use of personal cell phones for after-hours call backs.
Further, a pre-arranged shift change may be implemented for predictable emergencies like inclement weather. Performs duties and complies with needs of special campus events.
Observes communicates, complies with, and enforces Occupational Safety and Health Act (OSHA) provisions. Perform other related duties as necessary to support the UCO mission.
Qualifications required
General education or vocational training or equivalent combination of education or experience.
Must pass pre-employment screening.
Must have a valid driver's license, clean driving record, and be able to operate a typical motor vehicle.
Qualifications preferred
Mechanically inclined work experience.
Knowledge / Skills / Abilities
Entry level. Ability to safely operate tools of trade. Sufficient dexterity and coordination to operate equipment common to the trade.
Reads and understands manuals and instructions printed in English. Communicates effectively both orally and in writing.

This position requires a physical. The physical requirements are :
- Ability to lift 50 lbs. regularly and 75 lbs. occasionally.
- Ability to lift 50 lbs. and carry 200 feet.
- Ability to lift 50 lbs. and carry up / down 30 stairs.
- Ability to walk regularly for long periods of time across the campus.
- Ability to sit for long periods of time.
- Ability to use and reach with hands and arms regularly.
- Ability to climb in high places using a ladder or balance frequently.
- Ability to stoop, kneel, crouch, bend and crawl occasionally.
- Ability to push or pull dolly loaded with up to 120 pounds for 300 feet occasionally.
- Must have close, distance, and peripheral vision.
- Depth perception and ability to adjust focus.
- Pass PFT (pulmonary function test)
