About The Position
Weekly Pay Range - $1795 To $1994 Job Title : Histotechnologist Job Specialty : Medical Laboratory Job Duration : 26-week contract preferred Shift : Nights (Monday-Friday) Guaranteed Hours : 40 hours per week Experience : Minimum of 1 year (Preferred) License : Certification in Histotechnology Certifications : Certified Histotechnician - American Society for Clinical Pathology (ASCP) Must-Have : - Clinical Skills- Communication- Computer Literacy- Laboratory Equipment Operation- Laboratory Information Systems (LIS)- Laboratory Services- Laboratory Supply and Inventory Management Job Description : Process and prepare tissue specimens for examination by pathologists.
- Use processing equipment or manual methods to ensure proper fixation of tissues for examination.- Identify and determine the proper orientation of tissue specimens and embed specimens in paraffin for accurate sectioning.
- Perform microtomy to produce quality sections for diagnosis.- Produce consistently high-quality microscopic slides for pathologist review and interpretation.
- Perform routine and special staining procedures for diagnostic examination.- Maintain equipment and participate in the preventive maintenance program, alerting the Analytical Specialist of any problems.
- Assist in proper handling and storage of supplies and notify the Analytical Specialist when inventory is low.- Participate in the department's Quality Improvement program, focusing on patient specimen identification and quality tracking.
- Assist in evaluating and validating new instruments and technologies.- Participate in initial and ongoing competency assessments while maintaining a working knowledge of applicable Laboratory Information System programs.
- Contribute to the training and orientation of new employees.- Ensure compliance with all job-specific obligations and organizational policies and procedures, including safety and quality standards.
