Patient Financial Services Representative
The Patient Financial Services Representative is responsible for overseeing and managing patient accounts, which includes handling billing, collections, and customer service duties.
This role ensures that all patient accounts are processed with accuracy and efficiency, aiming to maintain a high level of customer satisfaction.
The representative will work closely with patients, insurance companies, and internal departments to resolve account discrepancies and secure timely payments.
Key Responsibilities :
Billing & Invoicing :
- Generate and issue patient bills and invoices for services provided.
- Ensure that billing is completed accurately, adhering to healthcare regulations and guidelines.
- Collaborate with insurance companies to verify coverage, process claims, and follow up on unpaid or denied claims.
Account Management :
- Monitor patient accounts to ensure expected payments are received.
- Investigate and resolve discrepancies such as overpayments, underpayments, and billing errors.
- Update patient information in the billing system as necessary.
Collections :
- Initiate contact with patients regarding overdue accounts, with regular follow-up until accounts are settled.
- Set up payment plans with patients when appropriate, ensuring adherence to agreed terms.
- Refer accounts to collections agencies when necessary, following company policies.
Customer Service :
- Respond to patient inquiries about their accounts, providing clear and accurate information.
- Assist patients in understanding their billing statements, insurance coverage, and payment options.
- Handle and resolve patient complaints in a professional and empathetic manner.
Compliance :
- Maintain confidentiality of patient information in accordance with HIPAA and other healthcare regulations.
- Stay informed of changes in healthcare billing practices, insurance requirements, and industry standards.
Reporting :
- Prepare and maintain regular reports on billing, collections, and account statuses.
- Provide analysis and recommendations to improve account management processes.
Requirements :
- Minimum of 2 years of experience in medical billing, collections, or a related field.
- Experience with healthcare billing software and electronic health records (EHR) systems.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Excellent problem-solving abilities and attention to detail.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook) and billing software.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and prioritize multiple tasks.
Compensation :
Salary : $18 - $22 / hour, depending on skills and experience.
