EXPERIENCE : A specific length of training and experience is not required, but you must show evidence of training or experience of sufficient scope and quality of your ability to do the work of this position.

Applicants will be rated in accordance with the OPM Federal Wage System Qualification Standards. SCREEN-OUT ELEMENT : Your qualifications will first be evaluated against the prescribed screen out element, the ability to perform the duties of an Electrician without more than normal supervision.
- Specialized experience include the following but not limited to : working independently as an electrician; utilizing knowledge of electrical theory and National Electrical Code requirements;
- installing, modifying, repairing and loading new and existing electrical lines, circuits, systems, and associated fixtures, controls, and equipment;
- using instruments and tools common to the electrical trade; reading and following wiring diagrams and blueprints to install or repair electrical equipment;
- using a variety of hand and power tools; and utilizing testing equipment. Those applicants who appear to possess at least the minimal acceptable qualification requirement are considered for further rating;
those who do not are rated ineligible and are eliminated. This position has a Selective Placement Factor : Failure to meet a selective placement factor will result in you not receiving further consideration.
In addition to the minimum qualifications described above, you must meet the following selective placement factor : Journeyman Electrical License or equivalent to be required.
Equivalent equates to 3 years of approved apprenticeship schooling. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. WORKING CONDITIONS : Work is performed indoors and outdoors, in areas where it is usually dirty, dusty and greasy;
outside in bad weather; and in areas where it is hot and noisy. Some of the work performed in service tunnels and under buildings where space is limited, requiring the incumbent to work in cramped positions and in areas where they will be required to wear protective equipment to avoid being exposed to asbestos dust from old insulation jackets on steam pipes and steam equipment.
All work with electricity is inherently hazardous, presenting the risks of shocks and burns. This requires the incumbents to be alert to these hazards at all times.
Adequate safety procedures, training and personal protective equipment are provided to make the work environment as safe as possible.
Note : A full year of work is considered to be 35-40 hours of work per week. Part-time experience will be credited on the basis of time actually spent in appropriate activities.
