Description

SAIC is seeking a Chief Cloud Engineer in support of the Space Development Agency (SDA) Advanced Fire Control Ground Infrastructure (AFCGI) program.

This position requires an active TS / SCI security clearance and is hybrid remote with occasional work at local SAIC sites (1-3 times weekly) and travel to customer sites.

Desired physical location is in the Reston, VA or Huntsville, AL area.

SAIC will be developing, deploying, operating and maintaining a common, enduring, ground infrastructure to support multiple SDA space vehicle demonstration and experimentation programs.

The ground infrastructure consists of worldwide Ground Entry Points (GEPs, which are ground antennas), cloud infrastructure, Demonstration Operations Center (DOC), monitoring and control software, and a global network to tie it all together.

This position will be responsible for leading the development of a cloud-based Ground Resource Manager to schedule, manage, and control terrestrial communications.

Responsible for the cloud-based infrastructure that supports the ground and interfacing systems, segments, and components in their development, test, and operational needs.

Responsible for developing, maintaining, and enhancing complex and diverse software systems (e.g., processing-intensive analytics, novel algorithm development, manipulation of extremely large data sets, real-time systems, and business management information systems) based upon documented requirements.

The Chief Cloud Engineer will work to develop a cloud based cross-domain solution that supports data at the CUI, Secret, and Top Secret / SCI, or higher levels with multi-security cloud environments.

They will collaborate with the lead network engineer and software engineer to define and identify standards and interfaces needed to ensure interoperability with SVVs and other ground systems.

This position will also be responsible for ensuring cloud resources are being used effectively and efficiently while assisting in moving as many functions as possible from an on-premises environment into a cloud environment.

The Chief Cloud Engineer responsibilities include, but are not limited to :

  • Lead the design, development, and modification of software systems, using scientific analysis and mathematical models to predict and measure outcome and consequences of design
  • Design or implement complex algorithms requiring adherence to strict timing, system resource, or interface constraints and perform quality control on team products
  • Design or implement complex database or data repository interfaces / queries
  • Develop or implement algorithms to meet or exceed system performance and functional requirements
  • Lead the transition of data from on-premises storage to a cloud-based infrastructure and lead software development in the cloud environment
  • Develop software solutions by analyzing system performance standards, confer with users or system engineers; analyze system flow, data usage and work processes;

and investigate problem areas

  • Modify existing software to correct errors, to adapt to new hardware, or to improve its performance
  • Implement recommendations for improving documentation and software development process standards
  • Confer with Lead System Engineer, Lead Cybersecurity Engineer, and Lead Network Engineer to derive software requirements and to obtain information on project limitations and capabilities, performance requirements, and interfaces
  • Coordinate software installation and monitor equipment functioning to ensure operational specifications are met
  • Perform technical planning, high level and detailed requirements definition, test planning and execution (to include use cases, test procedures, and test data), software systems integration, and technical support for software systems and subsystems

Qualifications

Required Experience :

  • Active TS / SCI clearance
  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Information Systems Management, or a related discipline and eighteen (18) years or more related experience.
  • Master’s degree and sixteen (16) years or more related experience; PhD or JD and thirteen (13) years or more experience;

additional years of experience will be considered in lieu of degree

  • More than 5 years cloud architecting experience with more than 4 years’ experience leading cloud architecture integration and application modernization
  • Strong knowledge of enterprise computing and operating systems and cloud computing platforms such as Linux, Windows, Microsoft Azure, and Amazon Web Services (AWS)
  • Experience in some or all the following : Container and container orchestration; high speed networking and network protocol experience;

DevSecOps using Gitlab; High-speed, distributed processing application development; Cross Domain Solution desirable

Desired Experience :

Experience with CloudOne, PlatformOne or other similar cloud computing implementations

Target salary range : $200,001 - $240,000. The estimate displayed represents the typical salary range for this position based on experience and other factors.
