Description

Works closely with the AUACDRMS, the SCDC / A, and Collection Development Archivist to ensure that new collections are appraised, inventoried, packed, and well-documented : including arranging for intake of analog and born-digital collections, liaising with donors, performing site visit surveys, establishing initial physical and intellectual control of incoming materials, and coordinating transport logistics.

Ensures that hidden voices and narratives are identified and incorporated within accessible description.

  • Assists the SCDC / A in the identification of University records in Harvard offices and studies used by retired / departing faculty, and participates in the preparation of archival records in all formats for transfer to the University Archives.
  • Partners with the Senior Collection Development and Electronic Records Archivist to solicit and curate inclusive web collections documenting Harvard faculty and associated organizations.
  • Under the guidance of the AUACDRMS, conducts copyright and permissions review of acquisition files to update and clarify terms of access to donated collections.
  • Collaborates with CDRMS colleagues to develop and implement effective training for employees andstudents on recordsstewardship and guidance for potential donors.
  • Participates in outreach activities such as tours, presentations, and exhibitions.
  • Must be able to travel independently to other off-campus locations, including the Harvard Depository campus in Southborough, MA, as needed.

Basic Qualifications

  • Master’s degree in library science / information science / archives or equivalent with successful completion of university-level archives coursework.
  • Minimum of 1-year professional work experience. Professional experience may include internships and volunteer experience.

Certificates and Licenses

Physical Requirements

  • Must be able to regularly move 40lb. records storage boxes.
  • Constantly positions self to pack collections. Occasionally ascends / descends small step stool.

Working Conditions

  • At times may work in basements, attics, warehouses, and other records storage areas that may be dusty or moldy.
  • The position is based on site in Cambridge, MA. There may be the opportunity for a hybrid work model compliant with Harvard University policies.
  • Work location is responsive and subject to change based on business needs. Requests for flexibility will be considered consistent with Harvard University flexwork policies.

Work Format Details

This position is based primarily on-campus, in Massachusetts. This may include in-person during emergency situations (if applicable).

Additional details will be discussed during the interview process. Certain visa types may limit work location. Individuals must meet work location sponsorship requirements prior to employment.
