Director of Student Engagement

The Office of Student Engagement provides students with opportunities to develop their interests, choose experiences that align with their goals, and enhance their education both in and outside the classroom.

Our student-centered and values-driven programs, leadership experiences, and services unite students and prepare them to be civic-minded, socially responsible change agents at Curry and beyond.

The department includes campus traditions and programs, student organization support and advisement, new student orientation, program management and operations, leadership development, and student employment.

The team works collaboratively, both internally and with other departments within the Division of Student Affairs, to achieve its mission and student learning outcomes.

Reporting to the Assistant Dean of Students, the Director is responsible for ensuring the vision, oversight, and management of all aspects of student engagement, including programming, internal and external reporting, retention, and external student engagement.

Essential Functions :

The Director will work with various functional areas across campus, working collaboratively to develop a rich and vibrant student experience.

The director must be able to develop student leaders, collaborate with college organizations / departments, and be organized and strategic.

Leadership development planning, organization, supervision, interpersonal, and scheduling skills are essential. We seek a compassionate and inclusive professional with demonstrated experience in fostering an accessible learning environment, particularly with a focus on supporting neurodiverse students, to join our dedicated team committed to promoting diversity, equity, and inclusion in education.

The duties of this position require evening and weekend work, including attendance at student organization meetings and various events.

Office hours may be adjusted if working late nights and weekends.

Administrative Responsibilities :

  • Developing Programming to Enhance Student Learning and Success;
  • Develop a program of resources and events that center around student learning through student development practices;
  • Develop a comprehensive social events program that allows students, faculty, staff, and community members to engage in various activities and foster community;
  • Lead collaborative efforts with other campus stakeholders to enhance student engagement, retention, and success;
  • Supervise the Assistant Director of Student Engagement, Office Manager, paid student leaders, and student employees;
  • Develop programs that enhance the professionalization status of the student;
  • Assess and evaluate programs and provide data to support program changes and improvements;
  • Develop programs that align with the college's Strategic Plan;
  • Represent the needs of students by serving as a resource and advocate in areas within the student experience;
  • Oversee the development and implementation of programs geared to support Commuter Students;
  • Manage, with the support of a committee, the development, planning and scheduling of new student orientation for both fall and spring semesters;.
  • Partner with key departments across campus to develop robust and effective programming and support of the first year experience;
  • Organize, recruit, and coordinate Student Engagement Leaders to assist with all new student orientation activities.

Operational Management :

  • Assist in developing and implementing campus traditions, including Welcome Weekend, Purple Pride Week, Family Weekend and Homecoming (Fall Fest), Spring Weekend, Colonel Alley (student tailgate-develop and launch), and other traditions as appropriate;
  • Coordinate the annual LEAD Awards for Student Leaders (the first year will require assessment and relaunch of the program);
  • Serve as a campus community leader and subject matter expert regarding topics of student engagement, event management / planning, and student leaders / organizations, and regularly provide consultation and guidance related to issues management on these topics.

Budget Management :

  • Oversee the operating budget for Student Engagement, Orientation, New Student Programs, and Student Entertainment & Events (S.
  • E.E.). Ensure that departments stay within means when planning;
  • Create long- and short-term plans and assessments of student engagement strategies and programs that align with the college's fiduciary practices.

Additional Functions :

  • Participate on college committees;
  • Respect and maintain confidentiality, parameters of operation, professional protocols, and individual privacy;
  • Perform other duties as assigned by supervisor of their designee;
  • Ability to work frequent night and weekends.

Salary Range :

$70,000 to $75,000 annually

Minimum Qualifications :

  • Bachelor's Degree required with 3-5 years of experience in student affairs, with focus dedicated to student activities
  • Computer Skills
  • Microsoft Office Products - Intermediate level of skill needed
  • Event Management Software (INVOLVE) Intermediate level of skill needed
  • Social Media Applications (Facebook, Instagram, & Twitter) - Advanced level of skill needed
  • Database Management (Banner) - Intermediate level of skill needed
  • Certifications
  • Driver's License Required : some use of a golf cart and 15-passenger vans may be necessary.
  • Soft Skills
  • Nights and Weekends will be required
  • Strong oral and written communication skills are a must
  • Strong sense of humor is a plus

Preferred Qualifications :

  • 3 to 5 years of experience in Student Affairs or Orientation preferred.
  • Master's Degree in Higher Education Administration or Student Personnel preferred.
  • Emergency management training and experience preferred.
  • Experience supervising student employees is helpful.
