Overview

Gilbane is seeking a Project Safety Coordinator to administer the safety program and serves as safety advisor, ensuring safety compliance by the project team and all employees and subcontractors working at the site.

This role will sit primarily on the job site, with occasional travel to the office for trainings, meetings, etc.

In addition, Project Safety Coordinator’s work under the direction of experienced Project Safety Specialists and Project Safety Managers on each job site which provides you with opportunity to learn new industry skills every day.

You will protect and promote the interests of both Gilbane and the client in all matters as well as demonstrating the personal characteristics of a developing leader.

Responsibilities

  • Support all safety efforts on the project and promote the Gilbane Cares safety culture
  • Ensure contractor activities are preplanned for safety through scope review, preconstruction meetings, JHA review, STAs, etc.
  • Ensure contractors meet Gilbane safety submittal requirements
  • Maintain all safety related documentation
  • Ensure contractor compliance with Gilbane safety plan & expectations
  • Make recommendations concerning situations hazardous to employee safety or health
  • Utilize SafetyNet to audit and monitor project team implementation of the Safety Plan
  • Perform at least 15 SafetyNet inspections / month with at least 100 observations each inspection.
  • Provide safety training to project teams on Gilbane, client and OSHA requirements
  • Investigate all accidents / near misses and complete all paperwork required
  • Ensure project teams have safety equipment and resources

Qualifications

EXPERIENCE / EDUCATION

  • BCSP credential
  • 1 year of relevant experience or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Multi-lingual (English / Japanese) required

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES

  • Working knowledge of construction safety principles, techniques and methods
  • Knowledge of OSHA laws, regulations, and policies
  • Capable of identifying known potential exposures and recommending corrective action
  • Computer skills and familiarity with the Microsoft Office suite
  • Basic written and verbal communication skills
  • Interpersonal skills
