Endoscopy

TITLE : Endoscopy Technician
OVERVIEW : TheEndoscopy Technician worksunder the direct supervision of the Endoscopy Nurses and Endoscopy Providers, to provide direct patient care and positive outcomes.
Coordinating the clinic schedule, providing patient care, gathering data from referrals, cleaning and maintaining equipment and environment, ordering / stocking supplies in assigned areas and some patient transport are components of the position.
The position requires an understanding of multiple endoscopy procedures such as sigmoidoscopy, colonoscopy, EGD, ERCP, EUS and excision of lesions.

HOURS OF WORK : Variable
RESPONSIBLE TO : Endoscopy Manager
PREREQUISITES :
Medical Assistant Certified required.
1 year of endoscopy experience preferred.
BLS required.
SGNA Associates Program or SGNA Advanced Associates Program Certification preferred.
Good to excellent computer skills including the ability to successfully navigate between multiple applications.
Able to communicate effectively in oral and written form in English language.
QUALIFICATIONS :
Perform within legal and ethical boundaries.
Document patient communication and clinical treatments accurately and appropriately.
Assist RN and MD during Endo procedures.
Comply with State, Federal and regulatory agencies.
Demonstrated ability for proper utilization / functioning in multiple roles of a MA within a fast-pace endoscopy department.
Demonstrated ability to comprehend, execute and act within the limits of MA scope. of practice while under the direction of a health care practitioner.
Demonstrated ability to function effectively in an environment where it is necessary to perform several tasks simultaneously, and where interruptions are frequent.
Demonstrate clear understanding of department structure and design.
UNIQUE PHYSICAL / MENTAL DEMANDS, ENVIRONMENT, AND WORKING CONDITIONS : Exposure to virus, disease and infection from patients and specimens in the work environment.
Siting for extended periods of time, keyboarding at a computer terminal approximately 50% of the time. Work with standard office equipment including computers, copiers, printers, fax machine, scanners and telephones.
Standing and walking for extended periods of time. Speaking, close vision, hearing, standing, walking, sitting, handling objects or controls, reaching, lifting.
Daily standing, squatting, walking, bending and maneuvering. May require lifting to 50LB to transfer / turn patient with / without assistive devices.
Occasional pushing and pulling of patients in wheelchairs, stretchers or other transport devices and assisting to sit and stand.

Patient Care
Anticipate and facilitate provider work flow
Assist providers with patient flow time management
Perform initial intake screening by "verifying" reason for patient visit
Obtain, evaluate, and record patient information employing critical thinking skills
Prepare and maintain examination and treatment areas
Prepare patient for examinations procedure and treatments
Assist with examination, procedures and treatments
Complete all forms and data sets for patient care to the maximum limit of scope
Schedule, coordinate and monitor appointments
Operational Functions
Apply principles of aseptic techniques and infection control
Practice standard precautions, including hand hygiene and disposal of biohazards
Comply with quality assurance practices
Perform inventory of supplies and equipment
Perform routine maintenance of administrative and clinical equipment
Apply computer and other electronic equipment techniques to support office operations
Perform methods of quality control
Practice Finances
Assist with ordering of supplies, checking for outdates, rotating stock and maintaining equipment.
PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES

Essential Responsibilities and Competencies : (performed in accordance with supervision requirements established by statute and administrative code.)
Assists with multiple procedures such as, but not limited to : sigmoidoscopy, colonoscopy, EGD, ERCP, EUS, excision of lesions as needed.
Performs venous and capillary invasive procedures for blood withdrawal.
Performs intradermal, subcutaneous and intramuscular injections.
Administers medications as ordered by the provider and per scope of practice.
Administers immunizations.
Applies, or assists with application of, durable medical equipment.
Administers medications as ordered by the provider and per scope of practice.
Performs immediate post procedural cleaning for all scopes per manufacture recommendations, as needed.
Performs waived Laboratory Tests.
Perform room setup and turnovers.
Gives approved instructions and patient education to patients.
Patient flows.
Assist with patient positioning under the director supervision of the RN. M
Manages messaging and order workflow.
Organizes and allocates orders in a timely fashion.
Researches and responds to messages in a timely fashion.
Acts as liaison between the PSR, MA and Provider.
