Assistant Professor WOT or Associate Professor WOT - Psychologist, University of Washington’s Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences Child / Adolescent Psychiatry Division- Seattle Children's Hospital, Psychiatry Consultation and Liaison and Mood and Anxiety Programs at Seattle Children’s Hospital

The University of Washington’s Division of Child Psychiatry and Behavioral Medicine at Seattle Children’s is seeking candidates for one full-time academic psychologist at the rank of Assistant Professor or Associate Professor without tenure due to funding (WOT) in either the clinician-teacher or faculty-scientist pathway.

This position has a 12-month service period (July 1 June 30). We anticipate the hire to take place in Summer 2024.

Assistant Professors are eligible for multi-year appointments that align with a 12-month service period (July 1-June 30).

Associate Professors are eligible for indefinite appointments that align with a 12-month service period (July 1-June 30).

Faculty with 12-month service periods are paid for 11 months of service over a 12-month period (July-June), meaning the equivalent of one month is available for paid time off.

University of Washington faculty engage in teaching, research / scholarship, and service.

Job Details :

We are seeking a full-time child and adolescent clinical or pediatric psychologist to meet the behavioral health needs of youth, and their families, who are admitted to the SCH’s inpatient pediatric services.

The psychologist will work primarily as part of Psychiatry Consultation / Liaison Service providing direct clinical care as well as working closely with other members of the subspecialty teams to optimize clinical outcomes.

The C / L team includes child psychiatrists, child psychiatry fellows, child psychologists, psychology residents, advanced practice nurses, a team mental health therapist, and a case manager.

Common referral problems include anxiety related to medical diagnoses or procedures, persistent abdominal pain, functional neurological disorders, altered mental status / delirium, eating disorders, and suicide risk evaluations.

The C / L psychologist will also provide consultation and collaborate closely with other members of the subspecialty teams to deliver care in service of optimal outcomes.

In addition, the psychologist will spend one day a week working with the outpatient Mood and Anxiety Program.

The successful candidate will engage in a wide range of clinical activities in a variety of medical settings with a multi-disciplinary medical care team and with patients experiencing acute and chronic health care challenges.

While this position is primarily clinical in nature, opportunities may exist for candidates who will either bring ongoing funded research activities to Seattle Children’s, or who intend to build an active clinical research program (research activities would not exceed 0.

2-0.3 FTE). Modest research start-up support may be available depending on the applicant’s interests and qualifications. In addition to collaborations with faculty in the C / L and MAP programs, there are also opportunities for collaboration with psychologists / psychiatrists working with a wide range of children’s mental health issues around research, training and cross-specialty interventions.

In addition, the psychologist would participate in family and community-oriented education and collaborate in program development.

They will also have the opportunity to serve as a clinical supervisor in our University of Washington APA-accredited psychology internship program.

Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences

The Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences is the third largest clinical department in the University of Washington School of Medicine (UWSOM) with over 330 full-time faculty members, over 460 courtesy / affiliate faculty members, 132 trainees and over 350 staff with an annual budget of over $130m.

Department faculty provide clinical services within the University of Washington School of Medicine system at the University of Washington Medical Center-Montlake and Northwest, Harborview Medical Center, Seattle Children's Hospital, the Veterans Administration Puget Sound Healthcare System, and the Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center, in addition to primary care locations, outpatient sites;

and telepsychiatry consultations to more than 150 clinics in Washington and beyond. As the only academic psychiatry department serving the five state WWAMI region (Washington, Wyoming, Alaska, Montana, Idaho), the Department’s highly competitive training programs are responsible for developing the mental health workforce in the Pacific Northwest and is the largest program in the United States.

We offer twenty-six graduate medical education programs, including the Psychiatry Residency and Clinical Psychology Internship / Residency programs, twenty-four subspecialty clinical fellowships (ACGME & Non-ACGME), and required and elective medical student clerkships for 276 students.

In addition, our education program runs six workforce training programs for mental health practitioners across Washington State and the Pacific Northwest Region.

Seattle Children’s Hospital

Seattle Children’s (SCH) is a large tertiary medical center affiliated with the University of Washington School of Medicine and serving a four-state area.

SCH provides a wide continuum of programming for children in the Pacific Northwest and provides pediatric specialty services for youth in need of complex care.

Child and Adolescent Psychiatry and Behavioral Health is a focus program at SCH and receives extraordinary support for its important role in the Northwest.

Salary

The base salary range for an Assistant Professor (WOT) position will be $8,500 - $10,417 per month ($102,000 - $125,004 annually).

The base salary range for an Associate Professor (WOT) position will be $10,500 - $12,500 per month ($126,000 - $160,008 annually).

Salary is commensurate with experience and qualifications, or as mandated by a U.S. Department of Labor prevailing wage determination.

Other compensation associated with this position may include an incentive through Children's University Medical Group (CUMG) practice plan.

Qualifications

A PhD, PsyD, EdD or foreign equivalent in a relevant field and eligibility for a Washington State license in Psychology.

APA approved internship or if internship is not APA eligible, then must meet the requirements listed in WAC 246-924-056.
