Anywhere within Information Technology.
The following are the duties of this position at the full working level. If this vacancy includes more than one grade and you are selected at a lower grade level, you will have the opportunity to learn to perform these duties and receive training to help you grow in this position.
Advises on highly complex issues, studies, research and analysis projects. Work pertains to the security research, acquisition, design, development, and maintenance of new or substantially improved information systems.
Assignments include :
- Represents and speaks on behalf of IT and IRS at professional meetings and conferences. Consults with senior level staff in IRS and other IT specialists on IT policies, issues, and problems, etc.
- Provides professional leadership and direction in the conceptual design, formulation and development of major prototype and developmental systems or in making extensive modifications and upgrades to existing systems, taking into account changing requirements and interfaces, advances in technology, and evolving standards.
- Conducts research into areas of great importance, significance, and difficulty, such as artificial intelligence including the application of computers to solve problems and to understand the principles of human intelligence.
- Consults and collaborates with other international experts from industry and other governments to develop IT policies and direction;
- represents IRS and the U.S. in national and international technical committees and consortia as a speaker and participant;
and provides counsel on IT development to technical experts of other national governments.
Functions as the recognized program expert and technical / professional expert and is sought after by outside authorities for consultation, advice and guidance in the field of computer science and tax information systems.
Requirements
Telework Eligible Positions : Telework eligible positions do not guarantee telework. Employees must meet and sustain IRS telework eligibility requirements (e.
g., reporting at least twice a pay period to your assigned Post of Duty (POD)) and supervisor's approval to participate in the IRS Telework Program.
- Must be a U.S. Citizen or National and provide proof of U.S. Citizenship.
- Must successfully complete a background investigation, including a FBI criminal history record check (fingerprint check).
Qualifications
Federal experience is not required. The experience may have been gained in the public sector, private sector or. One year of experience refers to full-time work;
part-time work is considered on a prorated basis.
You must meet the following requirements by the closing date of this announcement OR time of referral.
QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS :
BASIC QUALIFICATIONS (ALL GRADES) : You must have a Bachelor's degree in computer science or bachelor's degree with 30 semester hours in a combination of mathematics, statistics, and computer science.
At least 15 of the 30 semester hours must have included any combination of statistics and mathematics that included differential and integral calculus.
SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE GS-14 LEVEL : In addition to the basic qualifications, to be eligible for this position at this grade level, you must have one year of specialized experience at a level of difficulty and responsibility equivalent to the GS-13 grade level in the Federal service.
SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE GS-15 LEVEL : In addition to the basic qualifications, to be eligible for this position at this grade level, you must have one year of specialized experience at a level of difficulty and responsibility equivalent to the GS-14 grade level in the Federal service.
EDUCATION : See above IOR requirement that you must have a Bachelor's degree in computer science or bachelor's degree with 30 semester hours in a combination of mathematics, statistics, and computer science.
ADDITIONAL INFORMATION :
- A 1-year probationary period is required.
- Have your salary sent to a financial institution of your choice by Direct Deposit / Electronic Funds Transfer.
- This is a Non Bargaining unit position.
- Tour of Duty : Day Shift - start and stop times are between 6 : 00 a.m. to 6 : 00 p.m.
- Alternative work schedule, staggered work hours or telework may be available.
