Accountant I

Position Summary

• Initiate, approve, audit, and reconcile transactions in the MSU Kuali financial system for multiple accounts in support of assigned units and responsibilities for the Business and Financial Services (BFS) office in Student Life & Engagement (SLE);
• respond to and support business partners accounting needs and operational requests; supervise part-time student staff; create and analyze financial reports and make recommendations on continuous improvements;

support functions in Culinary Services and the Auxiliary Sports Group consisting of Forest Akers Golf Courses, MSU Tennis Facility, Breslin Center, Spartan Spirit Shops, and MSU Recreation Sports.

Work is performed in the 1855 Place building. Ability to work two / days week remotely after six month satisfactory evaluation;

hours are Mon-Friday 8AM-5PM, but does include infrequent, on-site work during MSU home football games and other peak business times.

All positions in SLE are designated as critical status. In the event of a university closure, modification, or suspension of operations due to snow or other emergency condition, persons in this position are expected to make all reasonable attempts to report to work as scheduled for the duration of the closure / suspension.

If a person has an approved remote work agreement to work a portion of their normally scheduled work hours remotely, they may be called upon to work on-site to serve the MSU community.

Minimum Requirements

• Knowledge equivalent to that which normally would be acquired by completing a four-year college degree program in Accounting;
• one to three years of related and progressively more responsible or expansive work experience in accounting, financial statement and report preparation, general ledger accounting and budgeting;

competency with word processing, database, spreadsheet, and presentation software; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
