The Department of Art, Media, and Design at California State University San Marcos seeks a part-time lecturer for Fall 2024 to teach AMD 420 : Contemporary Artists.
This is an upper division lecture course that meets in person.
Course Description
A survey examining the multiple worlds of the contemporary art world. Current issues, ideas, and intuitions which contribute to the shaping of today’s art are analyzed through the individual and collaborative works of African-Americans, Asian-Americans, Chicanos, feminists, gays and lesbians, the mainstream, and other artists.
Cross-influences, dialogue and debates of the last 40 years will be emphasized. Lectures and discussions will be supplemented with field trips to museum exhibitions, public art sites, private collections, and artists’ studios.
Minimum qualifications :
- A master's degree or equivalent experience in art history, theory, or production.
- Current publications, creative work, or public presentations that demonstrate expertise in art history / theory relevant to the topic.
- Teaching experience at the college level or equivalent
- Per the California State University’s Out-of-State Employment Policy, the CSU is prohibited from hiring employees to perform CSU-related work outside California.

Preferred qualifications :
- Two years or more teaching experience on college level
- Preference will be given to applicants with demonstrated commitment to diversity, inclusivity, and / or intercultural competence with diverse groups in relation to teaching.
Salary commensurate with degree level and experience
- Anticipated Hiring Salary Range : $5,007 - $8,000 per full-time month
- CSU Classification Salary Range : $5,007 - $12,594 per full-time month
