Plan and provide speech-language pathology services, including evaluations, as required to assist students with disabilities to benefit from special education.

Qualifications

Education / Certification

Master’s degree or higher in speech-language pathology or equivalent from an accredited / approved college or university program, and Valid Texas license as a Speech-Language Pathologist granted by the Texas Board of Examiners for Speech-Language Pathology, and CCC or TEA certification in Speech-Language Pathology

Master’s degree or higher in speech-language pathology or equivalent from an accredited / approved college or university program, and Valid Texas license as an Intern in Speech-Language Pathology (CFY) to practice under supervision of CCC-SLP while completing the post-master’s degreed 36 week full-time internship

Bachelor’s degree or higher in speech-language pathology or equivalent from an accredited / approved college or university program and Valid Texas license as a Speech-Language Pathologist granted by the Texas Board of Examiners for Speech-Language Pathology, and TEA certification in Speech-Language Pathology

Special Knowledge / Skills

Experience

Minimum of one year supervised clinical speech-language pathology experience

Major Responsibilities and Duties

Instructional strategies to promote student growth

Conduct speech-language evaluations / reevaluations of students referred through special education and provide a written evaluation report for assigned students.

Provide speech-language therapy services according to guidelines established by the Texas Education Agency, Texas Board of Examiners for Speech-Language Pathology, CCISD board policies, and administrative guidelines.

Plan and provide direct and consultative speech-language pathology services consistent with speech and language goals and objectives contained in the student’s IEP for assigned students.

Work with other members of general and special education staff and administrators to determine present levels of performance, as well as, goals and objectives for determined areas of need.

Conduct ongoing assessments of student’s progress, keep therapy logs for sessions recording progress data, and use results to plan and implement therapy.

Review existing therapy data and conduct assessments to determine readiness for dismissal of speech-language pathology services.

Work cooperatively with the campus and district instructional supervisors, coordinators, and department leads to improve therapy services.

Integrate the instruction of technology into subject area instruction and use available technologies as appropriate therapy and learning tools.

Plan and supervise assignments of speech-language pathology assistants, students, and interns.

Communication

Use effective communication skills to present information accurately and clearly.

Maintain a professional and cordial relationship with colleagues, students, parents, and community members.

Adhere to local, state, and federal guidelines regarding confidentiality.

Establish and maintain open communication by conducting conferences with students, parents, and other staff members.

Respond to parent phone calls / messages in a timely manner.

Classroom management and organization

Take all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students.

Create an instructional therapy environment conducive to learning and appropriate for the physical, social, and emotional development of students.

Manage student behavior in accordance with the CCISD Student Code of Conduct and handbook.

Provide for care and protection of school property and be held accountable for books, equipment, and other instructional materials.

Maintains accurate student attendance, therapy session data records, and evaluation reports and protocols in compliance with local and state requirements.

Assists in upholding and implementing administrative regulations and board policy.

Manage and utilize data effectively for systemic process and program analysis.

Account for the accuracy and verification of all student program data and reports.

Implement data-driven decision making for improvement efforts based on best practices.

Manage and utilize policy effectively for maintaining systemic processes and practices.

Account for the verification of the correct policy regarding all decisions and correspondence.

Implement effective policy-driven decision making.
